Meeting Topic 1: Risk Management in the Implementation, Management, Compliance and Security of Information Systems
Is it possible that the qualitative risk matrices used in many cyber frameworks are misguided? Have those of us assessing cyber risk been approaching it wrong? Could quantitative analysis improve results?
This presentation will attempt to answer these questions. We will look at the history of risk analysis in other industries and what those of us in IT Security might learn from them.Speaker: Eric Kornau
Eric Kornau is a semi-retired IT professional (that means he only works 40 hours per week) and has been involved with IT implementations in multiple industries since the mid-1980’s. He has worked in Aviation, Higher Ed as boty a professor and CIO, Security and Compliance Audit, and corporate management. Over the years he has attained several certifications including CISSP and CISA. He is currently a member of ISACA.Meeting Topic 2: Cybersecurity and the Intelligent Systems Landscape
This talk aims to discuss cybersecurity in AI, ML, and Data Science—aka "Intelligent Systems". It will cover the goals of major companies, actions by Congress and the White House, industry leaders' strategies, and technical aspects for organizations planning an AI strategy. A Q&A session will follow for further discussion and idea exchange.
Speaker: Daniel Schaupner
Dan Schaupner, CISM-CISSP, is an independent consultant. He has over 25 years of experience including roles with the DoD, DARPA, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and DHS. His corporate tenure includes leadership in North American security consulting for Atos, where he also spearheaded the development of Cloud and Zero Trust security solutions. Schaupner is a highly engaged academic contributor and community member, participating in initiatives with The University of Cincinnati, Oklahoma U, ISC2, and ISACA. He is an alumnus of the University of Michigan and holds an MBA from Virginia Tech. Schaupner has further enriched his expertise through an innovation residency at Cambridge, UK. He moved to Cincinnati from Washington DC in 2023.About Us:
The CiNPA Security SIG is the Cincinnati Networking Professionals Association Security Special Interest Group. We meet monthly on the third Thursday of each month, starting at 6:30 p.m. You can connect with us on Google Groups at https://groups.google.com/g/cinpa-security-sig.
The CiNPA Security SIG's monthly meeting format typically consists of one or two main monthly meeting topics featuring live presentations or demonstrations promoting open and interactive group discussions. Our focus is primarily on the technical aspects of InfoSec, but we occasionally touch on other areas of cybersecurity as well. Information security news, announcements, and round-table discussions follow our main meeting topics.
