Clash of the Clouds: Azure vs. Open Source Cloud Services

Cloud based technologies are all the rage in the current tech community which is why we have decided to host a debate to answer the ongoing question of “Which cloud based system is “best?”

This event will feature cloud-based developers that have used Azure and variety of open source cloud services and will be held in a debate-style.  The purpose of the event is to help developers and those simply interested in cloud based technologies understand the "what," "how," and "why" of choosing a cloud based service.  By the end of the night attendees will have a clear understanding of the cloud based services out there and best of all they'll be learning from others who have learned from first-hand experience.

Presenters:

Open-source:

Erik Sebesta – Chief Architect and Technology Officer, Cloud Technology Partners

Ed Brennan - Senior Director of Cloud Computing, Development and Strategy at Stratus Technologies

Azure:

Mark Eisenberg – Cloud visionary and former member of the Windows Azure sales team

Bill Wilder – founder of Boston Azure User Group and author of Cloud Architecture Patterns (O’Reilly Media, 2012)

Good to see so many of you turn out to hear about Windows Azure and how it compares to alternatives. I had offered to provide some follow-up references. Since they won't fit within a comment here, I wrote a blog post to highlight them. The follow-up post can be found here: http://blog.codingoutloud.com/2013/05/01/clash-of-the-clouds-followups/
