Sorry, I didn't catch the name of the fellow working on the 360-degree
field of view robot at the last meeting, but in case you're (or anyone
else is) interested, I just took apart one of those uber-cheap Cubeternet
webcams I mentioned.
All-glass optical path
Very small, fairly flat PCB with mounting holes at each corner, looks like
it will be easy to attach to stuff like robots (or my pick 'n place
UVC standard compliant interface; works with e.g. recent Ubuntu out of the
box - no kinky custom drivers.
Apart from the lens, internal construction is about what you'd expect for
a $16 Chinese no-name webcam. Hand-soldered and bent through-hole parts;
dabs of hot glue everywhere.
I took it apart because it broke! (probably due to a large solder blob I
found rattling around inside). Could be a fluke, and my 2nd one has shown
no problems so far, but that's still a 50% failure rate :-)
