Django pub meetup

Hi everyone,

Bit of a last minute post on this one, apologies for not getting this out sooner. We're in the run-up to Pycon UK, so this is your last chance to meet up and chat before the conference kicks off.

Given the interest from the last session, we'd like to try running some lightning talks. If anyone has a topic they think they'd be interested in sharing with us, please email James Pacileo or myself to let us know. I'm hoping to keep these quite short, so it doesn't need to be a huge amount of depth, more to just wet people's appetites and get some conversation going afterwards.

NOTE: This month we're in The Counting House rather than The Shooting Star, which had been pre-booked a while ago. We have a function room booked again, so hopefully it'll be a good space that we can continue to use in future in case The Shooting Star is unavailable. It's reasonably close to our normal venue.

We're booked from 6pm onwards, with talks starting at 7pm.

Regards,
Kevin

Great meet! For who wanted search within the admin panel there is this useful app that does just that. http://django-autocomplete-light.readthedocs.org/en/latest/index.html

Re ElasticSearch... LinkedIn bought IndexTank - a hosted realtime search engine. http://techcrunch.com/2011/10/11/linkedin-buys-real-time-hosted-search-startup-indextank/ - I'm going to go and explore the amazon search stuff later today, plus Haystack / Django integration.

These tickets are truly expensive! Probably cheaper to get a flight :)

Ah next time. Would be £46 for train (off-peak) today as not booked in advance, seriously crazy prices. Hope the next one will be soon.

It tends to start quieting down around 9pm, but people will usually stay on later. Hard to say though, we've only had 2 meetups so far. It's looking like it might be a bit quieter tomorrow, but with Pycon UK coming up that's to be expected.

Hey, how late do you expect to be out? I'll be getting the train from Norwich.

I'd certainly be interested in Haystack + ElasticSearch, especially as I've been looking at a lot of Amazon infrastructure lately (and CloudSearch is very similar to ElasticSearch)

Will be looking forward to it! Thinking of giving a 5 minute talk on either Celery + Redis or Haystack + ElasticSearch.

Sure, I'd be happy to do a brief 5 minutes talk on Amazon ElasticBeanstalk + Django

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
