A series of six events beginning in October 2015. Each event will concentrate the presentations from accomplished local and remote individuals who are specialists in different aspects of VR.
--- Part V: Interaction Design ---
Applying physical interaction to objects so you can reach out, and interact with things.
Greg Brown from The Foundry and Aaron Hilton from Conquer Mobile will be our featured presenters for the evening.
Greg will Demonstrate the new features of a Modo with asset model and animation creation, and pulling them into Unreal Engine and/or Unity 5. Aaron will pick up the model, and explain how to hook the animation up and trigger sound effects in a VR platform.
Aaron Hilton will also speak about the user interaction design Conquer Mobile did for PeriopSim. PeriopSim is an iPad app for surgical staff who need to learn surgical instruments and procedures. Using video of real surgeries and voice prompts, users are guided through a surgery and prompted to use the correct instrument at every step. Gamification techniques such as scoring and timed challenges motivate learners to practice and hone their skills. It is designed for both students and experienced perioperative nurses preparing for unfamiliar procedures.
Vincent McCurley, Creative Technologist at The National Film Board of Canada, will share the lessons learned about VR interaction design from showing Cardboard Crash at SIGGRAPH, ISEA, IDFA and Sundance.
NOTE: Tickets MUST be purchased in advance on our Picatic event page.
