Google Analytics - making sense of your data with segments

Google Analytics is a powerful free tool that tracks visits and actions on your website. Could you do more with Google Analytics? Non-profit website publisher Jeannine Mitchell shows how she got a new perspective on raw data from the Google Analytics module installed on her (Drupal CMS) website after local web analytics expert Behdad showed her how to create custom measurements known as 'segmentation'. Behdad will be present to field people's questions about web analytics.

I am glad that I was not the only person who attended this meetup and was disappointed. Both presenters were disorganized in their presentations and it felt like they were making up points as they went along. Both presenters should have come prepared with PowerPoint presentations as backups just in case the technology fails. Neither presenter presented structured talks and as a visitor it was very difficult to follow either of them. Both of them needed to focus on a single topic and expand upon that theme. By answering questions so early in their presentations it invited confusion from the audience. It was not so much that the audience was unknowledgable about the topics involved but that the presenters lacked focus. The second speaker came across sounding sarcastic and occasionally defensive which made the talk even more difficult.

it was unclear where the presentation was going and after 20 min, it was clear that it wasn't going to be of value to myself and a friend. had to leave after that and make better use of valuable time. Who did the donations go to? Hopefully W2 at least. should have booked the media studio downstairs, where it is set up for projectors and mikes. wifi was struggling and it shouldn't be at a Net event. staff or organizers could have made changes to have that boosted or the presenters set up on the W2office wifi for less strained internet streaming maybe.

Please mention in the Meetup description who the meetup is designed for, i.e., beginner, intermediate, etc. Also, please be accurate with the titles because I thought "making sense" meant something different than "how to set up". Thanks so much!

I have to agree with the friend I brought along who said: "That was the WORST seminar (presentation) I have EVER been to." The set up was poor, neither speaker was well prepared and either made sure the equipment was working properly before the meet-up, it was difficult to hear and some in the audience were excessively rude about continuing private conversation when a speaker was presenting. Truly not worth the $5 and definitely not worth the cost of parking.

As if she had never seen Google Analytics before. Behdad was better, but too slow for the situation. I was 2nd to leave (early). I suggest I get my suggested donation back.

Good information Delivery was very unorganized here there and everywhere (lacked: focus, beginning middle end, story and what is in it for me the audience - result/benefit) Suggestion for presenters: Toastmasters or Dale Carnegie experience or coaching. This would have provided the presenters with the skills and organization plus 5 alternatives to give an engaging presentation, even when computers are down. Suggestion for Net Teusday: What was advertised and what was presented did not match precisely, the topic yes (segments) the how no (how did segments work for the case study). Use bullet points describing what each part of the presentation covers and how it benefits the attendie then have the presenters give it in that order, like chapters in a book or steps to plan a trip. Learning: Everyone understood and stayed through the technical difficulties people did not understand and started leaving when the presentation content showed little organization or aha info and successes.

Not up to the usual Net Tuesday standards. Unorganized and uninformative.

This was plagued by technical difficulties and both presenters seemed to want to answer basic questions about Analytics rather than stay on the segments topic [as promoted].

I think it was pretty clear what a disaster that was. The first presenter was utterly disorganized and stopped in the middle of it. Never seen that before. The second presenter was better, but got really rattled after his computer died, and he never got it back on track. He seemed to be flailing around answering random questions. There was little substance or content to this meetup. Also, to the second presenter's credit, there was a lot of confusion in people's minds as to the appropriate level of experience. Some were looking for beginning info, and folks like me were looking for a lot more expertise.

It was my first. I realize the first presenter was nervous as it was her first time. But it appeared she wasn't prepared or maybe there were tech issues? The second presenter was mor experienced. The description did not tell me that it was an advanced topic. Google Analytics is new to me, it was good only that I could talk to Behdad after to get started on the topic. Perhaps the description could of been more specific in that it is for those who have a basic understanding of google analytics. I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with Behdad and to find out how to start.

First experience and was disappointed at the lack of preparation by the presenters.

Beyond technical issues, the presenter was hard to hear and the screen was almost impossible to see from where I was sitting. I found him unprepared (which he could have been since he wasn't the appointed presenter) and while I learned some new things, the presentation fell short of my expectations. I made a few good connections though :)

A few technical issues + the group was interested in Google Analytics as a whole vs. just understanding segments. Could be an opportunity for an intro session on Google Analytics alone.
