Ubuntu--simply put means 'me we'
According to Archbishop Desmond Tutu a person possessing the essence of Ubuntu is generous, compassionate, and caring. She/He uses her/his strengths on behalf of others;sharing their worth and demonstrating openness and largeheartedness.
The founder and original organizer was inspired by Oprah Winfrey's Biggest Give and motivated by President Obama's call to service. Thus, creating a group for those who understand the necessity of giving of time, energy, creativity, and hope to others.
Our volunteer meetups will consist of events/activities that we create ourselves for organizations , families, community centers and hopefully individuals. In addition to traditional opportunities where the need is great and our services will be beneficial. We LOVE to keep our calendars full!!!
Aside from volunteering we will have planning meet -n-mingles, where mingling is just as important as submitting ideas. We'll also have social outings where the main objective is to have FUN!
We mix passion with excitement using our strengths to uplift others. Most importantly we'll have fun doing it!
Connections: Membership/Active Participation
What's the Point!?!
There are many opportunities that exist for individuals to volunteer. If you've decided to join WBG you must prefer to volunteer with a group. Our focus is connections--'me we'. We are connected to those we serve and those we serve alongside. In an effort to create strong connections with fellow members we ask that you adhere to the following:
Our meetups are divided into 4 cycles
Cycle 1: Sep-Nov
Cycle 2: Dec - Feb
Cycle3: Mar-May
Cycle 4: Jun-Aug
Members are expected to partcipate in at least 1 service event per cycle. Participation in more than 1 event in addition to social events is strongly encouraged.
You can find more information about Participation and Active Members in our ABOUT US pages.
"Volunteering can be an exciting, growing, enjoyable experience. It is truly gratifying to serve a cause, practice one's ideals, work with people, solve problems, see benefits, and know one had a hand in them."
Harriet Naylor
We did such a great job at the DC Public Library Fall Book Sale I received an email requesting WBG for this event.
