Due to the Covid 19 virus the Thursday West Valley Critique Group is meeting on ZOOM. Bob Duckles is serving as the ZOOM coordinator. To participate complete the following steps at specified times:
- Join the Thursday West Valley Critique Meetup if you are a first timer.
- In the comments section report your word count: Say: "ZOOM word
count number." Report 0 if appropriate.
- Prepare your manuscript; Times New Roman 12 pt.; 1 inch margins--
top, bottom, left and right; double space; number pages; number all
lines.
- Acceptable file formats: .doc or .docx; PDF as last resort.
- At top of first page put your name, word count, ZOOM date.
- Subject line "ZOOM Critique [date of meeting] [number of words]
- If zero word count add "zero words" to subject line
- Email Bob Duckles your manuscript to: bob@duckles.org by noon on
Wednesday.
- Bob Duckles will place participants in a group and email group
members the appropriate manuscripts; many participants print the
manuscripts in order to make effective verbal comments.
- By 5:30 PM Thursday Bob Duckles will email the ZOOM link.

eir writing. Writers should bring 6-8 hard copies of their work to share with the group. The printed copies permit participants to make direct written comments, while the on site presence permits verbal comments. Stories, poems, essays, novel chapters or segments, non-fiction, fiction, how to topics, memoirs, screenplays, stage plays, scripts, are all acceptable genre. Keep every genre alive. 4-8 pages/1500-2000 words works well for this kind of session.
Individuals are also welcome to observe if they're not ready to share their work for critique. Use the comments section to register that you wish to observe and that you have a 0 word count.
The first 15 minutes (5:30 5:45 PM) is a social, get to know your fellow authors period. Announcements, readings and critiques begin promptly at 5:45 PM. During the sign-in period Moderators will divide the writers into 2-4 break-out groups of 4-6 authors. Writers who have not reported their word count may not have an opportunity to read--breakout groups are set up by word count. We must be outside of the building by 8:00 PM.
