"The Girl with the Almond Eyes" with Merit Ariane

The girl with the almond eyes whispers sweet songs to her beloved under the pomegranate tree; in a garden of jasmine blossoms, a young man, his cheeks like honeydew, fills his love’s glass with wine. In a dark place, a flower has wilted, spoiled by poisonous hands. The songs and stories of the Middle East and Mediterranean are infused with sensations, fragrances, tastes and colours.

Weaving together traditional and original songs, poems and stories, German/Egyptian singer Merit Ariane, with Greek/Australian storyteller Anna Conomos, Iranian qanun player Nilufar Habibian and Serbian accordionist Milos Milivojevic will take you on a magical journey of the senses, brimming with life, emotion and imagination. The venue is a deliciously sumptuous sofa-filled home-crafted cinema like none other, housed in a beautiful building oozing the history both of the neighbourhood and of costume creation. Even the loos are like none other in London!! Uniquely again, a ticket entitles you to free tea/coffee. Stronger stuff is available at the riverside Mayflower Pub, only a few cobble stones away. Sands Films is an inspiringly intimate place to hear fabulous music.
