The Writer's Round Table (WRT) has been around for over a decade, and we are primarily a critique group. We appreciate each unique style that has visited the Table, and we welcome new members. The WRT is home to published authors and fledglings alike, and we are committed to improving our craft through creative, constructive discussion on our writing projects. Our motto is Assist, not Assault.
We've grown rapidly since creating the WRT Meet-up site, and our meeting location is now space limited. If you think this is a group you would like to be a part of, please Join (becoming a pending member), and you will be contacted by one of our organizers. We add new members as seating becomes available. We can also help direct you to one of the many other fine critique groups in the Valley of the Sun.
We meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month (unless otherwise noted) at 7 pm at the Arrowhead Barnes & Noble (7685 W Bell Rd, Glendale, AZ: near 77th Avenue). Meetings last roughly two hours. Submittals are due the Wednesday before each meeting. We share our work through closed submissions on the Meet-up files page, and bring mark-ups with our comments and suggestions to the meeting for for discussion. Reviewing submissions prior to the meetings gives us more time to discuss each piece, and allows more time for review.
Submissions are generally limited to 4000 words (12 to 14 typed, double-spaced pages). Shorter submissions are also welcome. Submissions need to be in a Microsoft Word-compatible format with double spacing, but other variants are welcome so long as we can all print them out. Critiqued work can be marked up before or after printing; we're not too picky about that.
We encourage members to submit their work! Of course we will expect them to review the work of others as well. Respect is key. If you are busy and have to miss a few meetings or reviews, we understand. If you have further questions, please feel free to send a message to our organizers.
If you need questions answered, or if you would like to talk to an organizer, feel free to contact Penina at 623 299-6185.
