Workshop: accessibility unit testing for developers (and not only)

Details

Hands-on accessibility testing workshop at a new location!

How do we build accessible products and how do we unit test? Join us to learn core testing techniques & principles for building accessible digital products.

In this hands-on workshop we will cover the following:

• Quick overview and benefits of automated testing tools (e.g tenon, axe, etc)

• Manual testing: keyboard accessibility, WAI-ARIA keyboard patterns, inspection & other manual testing tools - developer toolbars, The Accessibility Inspector in iOS Simulator, etc.

• Screen reader testing: practical advice on creating & running tests using NVDA and VoiceOver. Also how to define the tests & pass / failure criteria.

• Experiences/ideas about using the above and other approaches in agile projects

Aidan Tierney, Alicia Jarvis and John McNabb will lead this workshop. They are long-time #a11yTO members & camp presenters who work in app development and QA. They will demonstrate basic unit test procedures (with before & after examples) and dig into what to look and listen for.

If you'd like to participate, be sure to install or configure a screenreader on your phone/tablet/laptop before the meetup. And please feel free to come with your own products to test and get input from the group.
