Accessibility & iOS Apps

Join us on November 16 as Ash Furrow will be speaking about iOS apps, devices and his experience with accessibility.

We are really excited about this presentation as we think it complements Jason's presentation greatly. At our last meetup Jason Fayre talked the user's perspective on mobile accessibility and we believe this upcoming meetup will complement that greatly with the developer's perspective.

Ash Furrow is the lead iOS developer at 500px.com, his greatest work being done on the 500px ipad app. At FITC Screens he recently presented the story of building a native photo application. Ash co-authored a book, contributed to open source projects on GitHub and has a life-long obsession with learning. He has been dedicating some of this learning to accessibility and even brought up the subject of apps accessibility in one of his podcast episodes.

You can find out more about Ash on his personal website - ashfurrow.com

For the month of November we have a combo for you - we are also scheduling the "Dinner & Mixer" right after the presentation at a restaurant close to Devlin.

Schedule:

  • 5pm - Welcome & networking
  • 5:30pm - Presentation time
  • 6:30pm - Q&A
  • 7pm - Heading out for the "Dinner & Mixer"

Also, if you want to dive into accessibility join us on Saturday, November 17 (the following day) at the full-day Accessibility Camp Toronto.

Is the information about the accessibility testing for those with limited vision up somewhere? I might know an interested person.

My ride dropped me off at 1545 but couldn't get upstairs because the chairlift was not working :p So I went for a cuppa and read the hour away. It was wonderful meeting you. Hope to mingle more next time. Today was a bad day for me :)

Thanks to everyone for a very informative session. I think we should get the folks at Meetup to make their app a little more accessible. For example, all I see here is member name but I don't see the name of the person who makes the comments.

Hi Angela, one of the reasons we chose Devlin is because their premises are accessible. If you feel comfortable sharing with me your accessibility needs I'd love to hear them, especially if there is something we haven't thought of already.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
