Critical Mass Bike Ride the Streets at Night-no stops at signals w/police escort

Critical Mass Bicycle Ride

This is a fun bicycle ride giving you the freedom to ride the streets of Los Angeles with thoursands of cyclists without having to stop for signals. The police block off the intersections, and we ride the streets with police escorts.

Each month the ride takes a different route which is part of the fun. LA Critical Mass rides are on the last Friday of each month. Previous rides have covered Downtown, WeHo's Santa Monica Bl., Hollywood Blvd. between Highland and Western Ave,  Thaitown, Little Armenia, Mid-Wilshire, Koreatown, East Los Angeles and many other neighborhoods.

LA Critical Mass monthly rides are approximately 30 miles with a speed around 10 miles per hour. There are always at least two brief stops. For more info visit their website and Facebook page Los Angeles Critical Mass.

Our meeting time is at 7:00PM and the ride starts at 7:29PM. We meet in front of the CLEANERS near the stairs at the rear northeast corner of Wilshire Blvd. and Western Ave.

The ride ends around 11:00PM to Midnight at Sunset Blvd. and Western Ave. conveniently near the Metro Red Line Station at Hollywood Blvd. and Western Ave. Note that the starting location and ending location are different!

Park on a street near Sunset Blvd. and Western Ave. and then take a bus or ride down to  Wilshire Blvd. and Western Ave. where the ride starts. Another option is to take the Metro to the Wilshire Bl. and Western Ave. stop on the Purple line. To see a map of the Red Line and Purple Line Metro stops CLICK HERE.

After the ride or at possibly at 10:30PM before the ride ends we will bike to a local Hollywood restaurant. One possibility is Sanamluang Thai Restaurant at 5170 Hollywood Blvd. at N. Kingsley Dr. which is open late. The restaurant is 4 blocks from the Hollywood Blvd. and Western Ave. Metro Station on the Red. Line. The last Metro Train is around 12:30AM.

I'm not in charge. If they let you go on rollerblades it's up to them. I only saw people on bicycles.

I have a couple of questions not addressed on this page.
Is there parking at the start location? if so where.
The starting location is Wilshire and Western but the end point is Sunset and Western! at midnight when all the drunk drives are out. Are you escorting the ride back to Wilshire and Western to our cars? Thanks

This is a tough ride for beginners because they go fairly fast and there is a big crowd so you have to be skillful in getting out of other riders way and letting them go around you. Personally I find residential parking near Sunset and Western and then I take a bus down to Wilshire and Western so I end up near my car when the ride ends.

Thank you Louis. As a beginner I will set this as a goal for another time.

We have at least 45 people RSVP'd from several Meetup groups including Downtown Los Angeles and Los Angeles Metro, Exploring LA, Foodie Connection, LA Foodies, and more so please try to arrive at 7:00PM and meet in front of the CLEANERS next to the stairs (it's easy to find) so we have time to introduce ourselves and meet each other. Bring a friend to join in the fun. You'll meet lots of people. Once the ride starts there are only 2 stops to regroup plus our fabulous meal at the end of the ride if you're up for it! And don't forget your Bicycle Helmet for your own safety.

Can't find the route. Want to join up later...where can I find the route at? Anybody know?

      May 28, 2013

    • Louis

They never publish the route before the ride. That's why you have to be there at 7:29 PM exactly when they leave because you never know where they are going.
