Announcing a new Meetup for New York Hiking and Outdoor Adventurers!

What: Canoeing or Kayaking in the New Jersey Pinelands

When: October 17,[masked]:00 AM

Price: $23.00 per person

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

It's cranberry harvesting season in the Pinelands of southern New Jersey which makes for a good time for a canoeing or kayaking trip.

cranberry harvesting

The Pinelands National Reserve encompasses almost a million acres. Read all about the Pinelands.

You can think of the flat water rivers of the Pinelands as similiar to the Everglades of Florida but with pine trees and no alligators so if you fall in nothing will eat you. Here are some pictures

The cost will be $44 (per person) to share a 2 person canoe or kayak and $57 for your own kayak. If we get 10 or more people the price will drop by $3 and will drop again if we get to 20.

$12 will go to drivers ($15 to NY based drivers). It's 95 miles away and no public transportation. ($24/$37 will go towards boat rental and the rest will be for meetup fee and paypal.

$23 of this amount will be due as a deposit.

We'll paddle for between 7.5 and 11.5 miles
It will be a 2 hour drive and the boats have to be out of the water by 5 so we'll meet by 8:00 and be on the road by 8:30. The meeting location will probably be the Metropark NJTransit train station.

Please indicate in your RSVP if you have a car and are willing ot take passengers. Also indicate in your RSVP if you're interested in camping that night. Chatsworth is having it's annual Cranberry Festival that weekend. We can also check out a cranberry bog at harvest time, a farm stand and a local winery.

Packing list and other details to follow.
