A Cold Day in Cold Spring (Easy Hike)

Details

Welcome to the third annual c-c-cold day in C-Cold Spring walk/hike! It is going to be ch-ch-chilly out, but you can count on this being a mellow hike. We will stay fairly close to town and not make our way up Mount Taurus. Visits to the West Point Foundry Preserve, Little Stony Point, and the town of Cold Spring are all on the agenda. If the group is feeling up for it, we could also head over to the ruins of the Cornish Estate.

This walk is rated 3B4 under the old system, and easy under the new system. The total distance probably will not exceed 4 miles. We will meet at Depot Square in Cold Spring at 11:20 am. There is a train that leaves Grand Central Station at 9:50 am that arrives in Cold Spring at 11:14. There is a public bathroom there, but you may want to use the one on the train to be on the safe side. Please bring drinking water and some snacks, since there will be no mid-day lunch break. We will however take a coffee break. After the hike, we will visit the Depot Restaurant for a drink by the fireplace, and then move on to another restaurant for a late lunch.
Dress warmly and wear good boots. Bringing trekking poles and traction aids would be a good idea, since there will certainly be ice on the trails and streets.

Anyone is welcome to participate, but the group size is limited to 30 people. The trip will be led by Tim Burrows (dreadnowt@ymail.com), assisted by AMC stalwart Rachel Radin (who came up with the idea for this walk). Feel free to get in touch with any questions or issues. Please register here, and check to make sure the hike is still on. (A forecast of bad weather will result in cancellation.)
