Let’s take a walk along Four Mile Run!

The route: Starting from the Kiss & Ride parking lot, we’ll exit onto 19th Street, walk east across S. Sycamore St into Madison Manor Park, where we’ll enter the W&OD Trail and follow it and Four Mile Run Trails east and southeast along Four Mile Run, through Bon Air and Bluemont Parks to Glencarlyn Park, where we’ll turn around and return along the same route.

The walk is 5.8 miles of smiles and should take about 2 hours. The surface is paved and mostly flat, with some inclines here and there.

A Google map of our route is here: http://tinyurl.com/ppfbfm3

How to get there:

• Metro riders: East Falls Church Metro Station is on the Orange Line.

• Driving directions: From the I-495 Capital Beltway (either direction), take exit 49 B-A for I-66E toward Washington and drive east about 3.5 miles. Take exit 69 toward US-29/VA-237/Washington Blvd/Lee Hwy. Merge onto Fairfax Drive and continue through straight through the light, following signs for VA-237 E. After crossing over I-66E and merging onto VA-237/Washington Blvd, GO PAST THE SIGNS FOR PARK & RIDE and turn right at the next light onto N Sycamore Street. Follow N. Sycamore St south, GOING PAST ANOTHER SIGN FOR PARK & RIDE, and turn right onto 19th St N, immediately after crossing back under I-66. The Kiss & Ride parking lot for the Metro Station is immediately to the right. Parking is free on Saturdays and Sundays, and there is parallel parking along adjoining side streets.

What to bring: Water, comfy shoes, and your furry friend if desired. The forecast is sunny with a high of 52 degrees.

Cost: none.

Administrative stuff: There are restrooms and drinking fountains at Madison Manor, Bluemont, and Glencarlyn Parks along our route. As a reminder, this is a kids-free zone, no one under 18 years of age is permitted.

After the hike: There are several restaurants along Broad Street in nearby Falls Church if anyone would like to grab a bite after the hike.
