Nature Walk II at the Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve
Details
Let's join the Friends of Dyke Marsh for a walk to explore the Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve in winter.
The walk will be led by Jessica Strother and probably a second person, to be identified.
The walk to the end of the Haul Road—the walking trail that leads through Dyke Marsh—is approximately 0.8 miles long (one way) on flat terrain.
How to get there:
The Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve is part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway, U.S. National Park Service, and is located on the western shoreline of the Potomac River about two miles south of Old Town Alexandria. On the Parkway, turn east at the sign for "Belle Haven Park & Marina/Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve" and park in the Belle Haven picnic area lot. You can also get there by taking a 10-minute bus ride from the Huntington Metro Station on Fairfax Connector bus 101, 151 or 152. Detailed directions and a link to bus schedules can be found on the Friends of Dyke Marsh website, http://www.fodm.org .
The Haul Road bulletin board is at the entrance to the Dyke Marsh Haul Road, along the road that leads to the marina.
What to bring: Water and comfy shoes. Sorry, our furry friends must stay behind, or we won't see any birds!
Cost: None.
Administrative stuff: There are restrooms and water fountains at Belle Haven Park.
NB: This event is not hosted or organized by the Alexandria Walking & Hiking Group.
