Roosevelt Island and the Netherlands Carillon
Details
Someone mentioned Theodore Roosevelt Island the other day, and that sounds like a nice idea. What's more, May 5 is Dutch Liberation Day, so they should have a nice display of tulips at the Netherlands Carillon. Let's go check out Roosevelt Island and some of the familiar landmarks along the south bank of the Potomac River.

The route: From the Rosslyn Metro Station (Moore St side) we'll walk north along Moore St, cut over east a block to Lynn St, continue north to the Mount Vernon Trail, and follow it southeast to Roosevelt Island. After taking a lap around Roosevelt Island we'll continue downstream to Arlington Memorial Bridge, where we'll turn onto Memorial Drive and walk southwest for a short break at the Arlington Cemetery Visitor Center. (Those pressed for time or desiring a shorter walk can peel off at the Arlington Cemetery Metro Stop.) After the break we'll head north to the Netherlands Carillon and past the US Marine Corps War Memorial and Dark Star Park before arriving back at our starting point at Rosslyn Station.
The hike is about 5.2 miles of smiles, fairly easy, and should take about 2 hours. The route is mostly paved, with some gentle hills and steps here and there.
