Hello Ladies and Gents,
Please remember this is a kid-free zone as this is a group of adults for adults. The group’s events are based on the capabilities of our average adult participant with fun, as well as safety, in mind.
From a legal viewpoint and a broad understanding of our civil justice system, kids by reason of their age do not possess the level of reasoning to protect themselves from the dangers of the trails. Therefore, the potential for accidents/injuries and subsequent legal action against us organizers increase.
From an organizer viewpoint, aside from the legal liability, having kids on the trails requires an additional responsibility - adult supervision. Please remember the group’s organizers/event hosts are all volunteers whose duties include to plan/organize/lead events. And I might add…we make exactly – zero- money here. So providing adult supervision to kid(s) is not within an event host’s scope of duties.
For the reasons above, we organizers would be negligent in the form of not exercising good judgment, if we allowed kids on the trail with us. Personally, I feel having kids on the trails with us kinda defeats that purpose of the group…
Sorry for the mass email, as I know this does not apply to most of you.
