Event Description: Dear United Animal Advocates
As we enter the last month of 2007, let's celebrate the fact
that we've now grown to over 120 members! The time has come for another dinner
get-together, and this time, we'll be patronizing a brand-new vegan eatery
called Jax Vegan Cafe in the Westwood area (http://www.jaxvegancafe.com/) which just opened up a few
weeks ago. Mareine, the owner of Jax Cafe, has graciously offered a 15%
discount to our group for this evening. We'll meet there for dinner at 6:00 pm
and try to wrap things up by about 7:30 pm so we can get to the Third Street
Promenade in time for the 8-10 pm outreach. (It takes about 10-15 min. to
drive from Jax Cafe to the Promenade.) Please join us in supporting the newest
vegan business in town!
The next opportunity to leaflet on the Santa
Monica Promenade with simultaneous video projection going on is Saturday, Dec.
8th from 8-10 pm. The outreach (leafletting and showing of "Meet Your Meat"
and "Earthlings") will take place on the Third Street Promenade between
Broadway and Santa Monica Blvd. Look for Aouie with his projector screen and
AV equipment. If you are new to leafletting and/or apprehensive about it
(which is common but the nervousness fades with practice), please email me for
tips or look at the lealetting tips from previous posts. Remember this is a
"Friendly Interactions Only" type of event, meaning everyone is expected to be
friendly and respectful - including to occasional hecklers passing by. This
type of outreach is something anyone can do and has a tremendous positive
impact for the animals by raising awareness.
Now that the campaign to
get a ballot initiative to ban veal crates, gestation crates, and battery
cages in California is upon us, this will also serve as an opportunity for
gathering signatures from the public to get the initiative on the November
2008 ballot during the outreach. We need more people to help gather
signatures!! If you've gotten your petitions and info packet, please come on
out with your signs, blue or black pens, clipboards, and petitions in hand.
The passersby on the Promenade are waiting to sign those petitions! For info
on how to become involved with this effort, please visit
***Please RSVP to show your involvement in
the group. Be sure to indicate in the comment section if you plan to attend
dinner, outreach, or both! *** Thanks a bunch!!
Hope to see you
