Welcome to Sydney Sketch Club!! A group of very friendly people of varying levels of art expertise will provide encouragement, motivation and inspiration for sketching in public. Meetups are held on average every fortnight at all sorts of locations across Sydney. So far we have had only one day trip (to Windsor on the train) and as it was most enjoyable and successful we hope to repeat this and other day trips (perhaps Bowral or Kiama) in future?
We regularly have between 15-35 people attend the activities. We also participate in the (quarterly) Worldwide Sketchcrawls (with up to 50 people).
We usually meet for 2.5 – 3 hours (often drawing in small groups) and then gather for a show’n’tell and group book photo.
The social side of the Club comes from the members who stick around to have lunch together. This is when you can chat with your fellow sketchers and discuss techniques and materials used – sketchbooks are often shared around.
Members can upload their sketches to the SSC meetup site which is a great way to share work. It is highly recommended that you take time to look at the Photo Album on SSC meetup site of previous activities - you will find such inspiration there.
You are also welcome to put forward ideas for future sketch outings.
Occasionally we may also go to an art exhibition (e.g. Archibald, Salon des Refuses, White Rabbit Gallery) and use those paintings as inspiration for our own works.
You will need to supply all your own art supplies. There is no formal tuition given but you can certainly "learn from others".
There is an activity charge of $1 only, which is used to help defray the monthly costs charged by meetup.com to the Sydney Sketch Club on their site. The organisers do not personally benefit from money collected and continue their involvement on a voluntary basis.
So please get up the courage to attend your first meetup - I am sure you will be hooked as I was when I discovered SSC (and once the founder had to return overseas "inherited" the club as I didn't want it to disappear) - we have a great group of regulars who attend as often as their lives/commitments permit so you are likely to make some nice friends along the way to share your art interest with.
