Hello everyone,

I have had some homeless shelters contact me stating that they needed mentors for their residents.  They are in need of budgeting mentors who have experience with money management/finance who can help the families with advice with money issues and budgeting.

They also need family mentors that can work with one individual family.  We will match you with a family that you are most compatible with.

Family Mentor Teams provide assistance with:

Family Mentoring - Mentors frequently establish a close relationship with the family and serve as a positive role model for the program participants.  They provide emotional support and encouragement for families enrolled in the HomeStretch program.  Assistance can range from recognizing birthdays to obtaining computer equipment to providing an empathetic ear.

Budgeting - The Budget Mentor formulates a budget plan with the family to track income and expenses on a weekly basis.  A Budget Mentor assists the family in developing a savings plan, debt repayment plan and relocation budget as the family prepares for graduation from our program.  The Budget Mentor teaches parents how to successfully address debt and to make good financial decisions.

Resources and Job Coaching - Volunteers assist the Family Case Manager with locating resources needed by the family including services such as child care, transportation, resume preparation, job referrals/readiness or securing medical services.

You don't have to be experienced in everything.  We can actually group volunteers together for to help one family.

We are in need of mentors for women that are recovering from substance abuse who are currently in a recovery program at one of the shelters.  They are in need of emotional and spiritual support.  They need encouragement.  These are women that are recommended by the center for partnership.

We also were contacted by Convenant House that need assistance with their residents who are homeless teenagers that need guidance in the right direction.

This is definitely a needed service and does take considerable commitment.  If you think that you have the time to reach out to a teenager, women or family in need, please contact me and let me know and I will partner you up with these shelters and families.  Please let me know what your skills/interests are so we can find a match for you.  Serious inquires only.

Thanks for your time.
