Define Devops and Set Agenda for Next Few Months
Details
Last month, Adrian's talk prompted some really great conversations. Several of you mentioned it was the best meeting yet because of that.
I did a 25 minute presentation for Refresh Austin on how Feedmagnet (http://www.feedmagnet.com) (the company I work for) used devops thinking, concepts from The Phoenix Project (http://www.amazon.com/Phoenix-Project-Helping-Business-ebook/dp/B00AZRBLHO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370386529&sr=8-1&keywords=the+phoenix+project) and the industrial revolution to build a business on a single tenant/share-nothing topology. It is key note style and I say some pretty controversial things. The entire point is to fuel the fire. Tell me the ideas are stupid. Tell me I am going to put my company out of business. Defend the ideas. Try to apply the ideas to your situation. Talk about what is(n't) devopsy about it.
So an agenda looks like this:
7:00 sodas and social 7:15 Talk Starts 7:40 Talk Ends 7:45 Repair to a local purveyor of adult beverages for discussion, argument, fist fights and general passionate expostulation :-) http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/4/9/3/6/event_244158742.jpeg
Note that no food will be served this time. We might end up at the BBQ joint up the road or something.
We have talked a great deal about tools since we got started and we will have one more such talk from SaltStack in July. I am hoping to get a strong sense of what our next steps should be!
Hope to see you there!
Boyd
