Cycle Academy Hackathon on Sat 5/16

Good morning Python Meetup Crew,

I run the Ghisallo Foundation which is a youth bicycle nonprofit in Austin educating kids so that they can use their bicycles for exploration, navigation, and transportation. Most of the kids we work with are low income under-served youth.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this or not, but we are looking for a couple of Python and AngularJS developers for a hackathon on Saturday May 16th. Hosted at the Rackspace ObjectRocket offices in downtown Austin from 9am-7pm. We currently have developers from Rackspace, Civitas and Dell participating and will be providing breakfast, lunch, beverages and snacks.

Cycle Academy is a structured educational program geared toward youth cyclists concentrating on bicycle riding, safety, and maintenance skills. It focuses on hands-on learning, self-sufficiency, developing a healthy lifestyle by integrating bicycling into daily activities, and community service. The curriculum is split into subject-specific badges, each of which focuses on a single skill or task. A unique aspect of the program is a dependency map or skills tree – a common feature in modern strategy games – linking badges together. Cyclists advance through the program by completing lower-level badges to satisfy the associated dependencies in order to progress to harder badges and more sophisticated skills.

We are continuing to work on developing the platform to manage attendance, badge acquisition, and other features of the educational system so that we and similar groups in other cities can easily track and manage the classes and students.

We are using:
Python
Flask
SQLite
Foundation Framework
AngularJS
TinyMCE

We have a full REST interface which will be used as both a external API as well as the interface the frontend uses to retrieve page specific data.

If you are interested or know someone who is, please drop me a line!

Sincerely,
Christopher Stanton
Founder & Executive Director
