This will generate the error because you are telling the browser to
expect an image and then sending no data. Did you try checking the
errors from the function returns as I suggested? Is imagepng()
returning false? Are any of the other functions you call returning
false? Error checking is important and it's been mentioned by at least
two discrete parties without reply, so please do that.
Additionally, someone also mentioned whether GD was compiled with PNG
support. If you checked for errors, you might find imagepng returning
false (or maybe not being a registered function). But you can also do
this by viewing the phpinfo() output and seeing what formats GD
