Hey all! I’m the Volunteer Coordinator for the Baltimore GiveCamp event, which is a weekend long event where PM’s, BA’s, Team Leads, Developers, and Designers come together and “make technical dreams a reality” for local non-profits. The details are below. One of the non-profits, Pets on Wheels (http://www.petsonwheels.org/), is looking to do several enhancements to their website, which is in PHP. If anyone is interested in helping out with this project during the GC weekend (Oct 19-21) as a ‘Developer’ or the ‘Team Lead,’ please let me know!
The 2012 Baltimore GiveCamp (www.baltimoregivecamp.org) will be held the weekend of Oct 19-21 at UMBC’s Technology building.
What is GiveCamp
GiveCamp is a weekend of "coding for charity" that will benefit about 30 local MD non-profits with any technical needs they have that they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford (i.e. website build, website redesign, database solution, etc...).
Last Year's GiveCamp
The 2011 Baltimore GiveCamp had 140+ Technical Volunteers (including PM’s, BA’s, Team Leads, Developers, DBA’s, Designers, and Social Media SME’s) and saved the 21 non-profits $250,000+ in technology and resource costs.
We're looking for everyone; we want the code ninja and the n00b. Designers, database administrators, quality assurance pros and the "average users" who like to break things, mobile application enthusiasts, chair-lifters and swag-organizers, network systems administrators, web developers, generic code monkeys, social media and digital communication specialists, and software architects. Give Camp is language and technology agnostic, and although a familiarity with Content Management Systems is useful for many of the projects, it is not a requirement.
