Bitcoin Special Lecture - Security in a post-quantum world

Details

Agenda:

19:00-19:30 - Gathering and refreshments
19:30-20:30 - Bitcoin and computer security in a post-quantum world (Vitalik Buterin)
20:30-22:00 - Free discussion

The talk will give a broad overview of quantum computing and how it relates to the security of Bitcoin. It will cover topics such as:

• The basics of what quantum computing is

• What it can do, and even more importantly, what it cannot do

• The state of quantum computers today

• What the development of strong quantum computers would mean for the security of the Bitcoin protocol as it stands today

• A few different ways that Bitcoin can be modified to be "quantum-proof", including what the pre-quantum to post-quantum transition process might look like.

• Some hypothetical future developments such as the possibility of efficiently simulating quantum computers on a classical computer, nonlinear quantum computers, and P=NP; and how those developments, if they ever happen, will affect both Bitcoin and computer security as a whole.

The talk will be given in English, by our special guest, Vitalik Buterin, Head Writer of The Bitcoin Magazine, currently visiting Israel from Canada.

We would like to start the lecture at 19:30 sharp, so please make an effort to arrive on time, taking traffic into account. From 19:00 you'll have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments and socialize.

Parking is recommended at the nearby Azrieli Center (7 minutes walk).
