What we’re about
We're here to talk about, program, share, and demonstrate software, hardware, and ideas for the upcoming new wave of virtual reality. Whether you're an avatar who spends more time in virtual worlds than the real one or someone who's never even worn a head mounted display, you'll find a great group of people who love VR. Each month we bring in presenters from companies who are pioneering VR technology and also feature an array of demonstrations created by our local VR developers. They can help you embark comfortably on your first VR experience or dive deep into VR design and discuss the latest news from the fast changing world of VR. We are a government certified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which means that all ticket fees and donations are dedicated to putting on more VR events in Boston and that all donations are tax deductible.

Description: This event is run though the Boston Virtual Reality Meetup Group. At the May meetup, Erik Nelson will show us how to add materials to an object in Blender! We will first create a simple model of a car and then add materials to it, such as reflective chrome, shiny body paint, and black tires. The purpose of the tutorial is to get a taste of the many things you can do with procedural materials in Blender.
Erik Nelson is a six-year veteran in 3D modeling.
After the one-hour demo, we will all work on Blender 3D projects together and share projects and network.
For those participating who are new to the world of Unity or Blender please-
- Bring your laptops and preferably a '3 button mouse.'
- Download and install the latest version of Blender:
https://www.blender.org/download/ - NOTE- You do not need to create an XR scene in Unity prior to this tutorial, this will only cover Blender.
