Solution Design: The Hidden Side of UX with Joe Baz

UX is not just about UI. It's about understanding customer needs and creating a technological solution that addresses their needs. Developers have a huge, and often understated role, in the creation of a great user experience for customers. Joe will walk us through principles and techniques that can help you test your ideas and bring them to market successfully.

Joe, thanks for the link, enjoyed your presentation. It was interesting seeing your companies take on using problem solving methodology in working with UX. My only other comment is you might want to rethink your image for VOC.

Thanks for the intro into Solution Design. Lots to absorb and take in. It feels a little like test driven development, but for the "soft" sciences involved in UX and UI. Surprisingly large group both at the Job Fair and at this talk.

It is very different from an 'Agile' approach. What are the pros and the cons?

Joe was very thorough and covered a lot of ground.

Bummed Icoudn't make it. I hope you post the slides or video.

Bummed that I cannot make it tonight. Recently tore my ACL and getting around has not quite been the same.

    April 17, 2013

    • Bobby C.

Sorry we will miss you, Ryan. Torn ACL is a pretty painful injury. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery. We are planning to record the event, and we will post a comment with links once we have them.

      Thanks Bobby, appreciate it!

Matt, out of curiosity how come this isn't being UStreamed?

    April 17, 2013

    • Lance P.

Bobby, is this or isn't this? Pretty straight forward question, simply curious.

      April 17, 2013

    • Heather O.

Lance, unfortunately it's not that straight-forward this time. We are not sure right now if the video equipment will be available because it is housed in a section of boylston that is (or was earlier) blocked off; we wont know until it either happens or doesnt, which is why we haven't said anything either way yet. Sorry no one replied earlier, also. I know I have not been keeping up with these comments; I usually focus on emails that come in for questions. Thanks for checking in.

Change of plans and I cannot make it tonight. I'm hoping a recording is made available.

I am planning to go but might be late or miss it due to a family conflict. For the record, if I don't make it fear will not have been a factor.

You have a point, it was more about respect for the families

I wasn't planning on going, but I feel it is important, as a show of defiance, to go about my normal business. To provide stability and support for those who were touched by this event and show that life goes on.

I think we all will find different ways to cope, but I thank you for giving us the choice.

As of right now, I am on the fence about attending this event, it just doesn't feel right to me at the moment, to attend something like this so soon after such a tragedy. Sorry to say that I can't make this one.

We were shocked and saddened by yesterday's attacks at the Boston Marathon. Our hearts go out to the victims and all who have been affected. We have spent time considering how to proceed with our job fair and presentation scheduled for Wednesday evening 4/17 at the MS NERD center. We recognize that one of the central pillars of BostonPHP is our sense of community. After a terrible attack such as this, we hope that sense of community is one thing which may help us all come to terms with these events.

We intend to continue with both the job fair and talk as scheduled, with pride in our city and our PHP community. We at BostonPHP are here to SUPPORT our community and to provide whatever resources we can to foster an environment where developers, designers, entrepreneurs and employers can help one another. We hope you will still be able to join us in standing strong with each other, as a community.

We welcome your thoughts and feedback, as we navigate the days ahead.

Need help to find alternative methods for addressing the 'keyboard buffer' for a function somewhat like an 'on screen keyboard' with the goal of a kind of 'widget' operable on all platforms
