Come learn how to quickly and easily create a FaceBook app!

We will demonstrate how to build a FaceBook application from scratch using codeigniter PHP framework.

After an brief introduction to codeigniter, we will move to building a FaceBook application which includes - Facebook PHP API, explanation of the form when creating a new application, generating news feeds, generating notifications etc. We'll also touch upon FBML and XFBML and how they can be used for iframe applications by using FaceBook JavaScript API. After this, any beginner would be able to develop FaceBook applications.

Hi Michael, will a video of this meetup be available later?

    Hi all,
This is a response to Tim's question.

We will video the "how to create a facebook app" event. It will likely be made available within a week or so after the event. We plan on offering video for all meetups whenever the presenter is comfortable with having the presentation made available online. There are some details that need to be worked out regarding how it will be displayed on our site but at the very least, we will make the URL available so that we can all share and discuss.

Hi all. Thanks for coming. I tried best to keep it easy to understand with the presentation and a sample application but even then it was a lot to cover considering the time we had at our disposal. I think we all did pretty well and most of what I had aimed to cover was covered.

To make things easy , I will share the presentation and code of the application i developed along with instructions to set up in couple of days. For any queries, feel free to write to me at ashish.kakran@gmail.com

I think this meeting was a huge success. Ashish did a great job showing us a bit of the framework, and just how easy it is to write your own FaceBook app.

We will work to get the slides and code samples up on the site so others can download it. We will also post a video of the presentation for those that missed it.

Afterward we had a great time at the bar with about 20 people from the event. So much enthusiasm, ideas, and passion - I am really excited about the future of BostonPHP.

Great high-level presentation on developing a Facebook App with PHP. (with or without codeigniter) Thanks Ashish for taking the time to show us how easy it is to get started and what to watch out for, etc. Not to mention great pizza! Thanks Matt for coordinating that!

A good overview. I would have preferred a longer workshop.

A little over my head on the CodeIgniter stuff, but seeing the facebook stuff in action really made me want to go out and learn more and try to apply it with my own app. Thanks!

Nice quick introduction to one type of facebook application. Great job creating a simple demo application that shows off some relatively powerful functionality. I would have liked to learn the FBML technique, too.

Lots of good stuff - would have preferred to have focused exclusively on facebook (rather than setting up the app in code ignitor) but I still learned a lot.

The speaker was difficult to understand and the presentation was not coherent. The presentation was difficult for the beginner to follow.

I don't know anything about CodeIgniter so I didn't really get that part. If we had been told it was going to involve codeigniter I would have done some research on it.
  • Connie Hirsch
It was a little advanced for me, but very encouraging and certainly interesting. I followed the concepts even if I didn't catch all the details.
