Also bring an appetizer (preferably homemade) that is French. Here are some suggestions: http://allrecipes.com/recipes/1848/world-cuisine/european/french/appetizers/
Wearing French clothing is appreciated but not required!
Please remember a few things:
-
If you RSVP that you will attend, please attend. It is unfair to those on the waiting list to decide less than a day away from the event that you will not attend. If you must cancel, please do so at least a day in advance.
-
Limit is 60 attendees.
-
Each attendee is welcome to bring up to one guest. If you bring a guest, please list that person as a “Plus 1” on your RSVP. Also, please bring two bottles of wine and two appetizers, or a larger than normal appetizer (since there are TWO of you).
-
Bring your own wine glass.
Bastille Day is the name given in English-speaking countries to the French National Day, which is celebrated on 14 July each year.
The French National Day commemorates the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, an important event in Paris in a violent revolution that had begun two days earlier.
A mass was celebrated by Talleyrand, bishop of Autun. The popular General Lafayette, as captain of the National Guard of Paris and a confidant of the king, took his oath to the constitution, followed by King Louis XVI. After the end of the official celebration, the day ended in a huge four-day popular feast and people celebrated with fireworks, as well as fine wine and running nude through the streets in order to display their great freedom.
