Thanks to all the volunteers for making this such a fun event for all of us. Thanks David for barbecuing all day down to the very last piece> The hardest part may have been that he himself was being 'barbecued' by well meaning bystanders throughout offering advice on how to BBQ and when to turn the burger over. What patience! Lol ;-)

Corrections...I didn't do much. A BIG thanks to the pre & post BBQ helpers and our sponsors. Special thanks to Humphrey, Becky, David and Truong for the bulk of the work.

Thanks Humphrey, Teresa and all the others that helped make this bbq a successful event. It was super fun and the food was great. Good turn out, beautiful weather, what more can you ask for right? It's unfortunate there are some complainers and negative people who cried s over a few dollars. If all they care about is a few dollars then they shouldn't be attending these social events. Did they take, in consideration, the wonderful prizes that were handed put such as free bbt, sunglasses, free hour of badminton, or even an awesome tshirts that was donated by Sam? Let's see them organize a bbq for over 100 people. Anyhow, once again, thank you for hosting this amazing event and I look forward to attending future events!

another way is byof as long as u keep an eye on your chateau briand or cheeburgy and chip in the setup costs, coal and etc.
makes it easier for folks to decide what to eat and bring.
i dont eat like a piggy as what i used to be, should i come i would have totally lost out.
we can still have a lot of fun too.
being an organizer can be pretty difficult, none the less we need to thank them too.

we simply cannot be all things to all people. One thing I knew for sure I dont possess thick skin or the intestinal fortitude to be a leader!

      June 10, 2013

    • Humphrey

Why go there when you know it doesn't work? It's the same idea for byof or any sort of potluck: it does not work well for meetup's low commitment mentality, and /or exceeding the magic number of 20 people.

      June 11, 2013

  • blowfish/ Bill C

i take there will be no badminton tomollo night?

    June 9, 2013

    • blowfish/ Bill C

oh oh, i read this a day late, anyways i try to be on time by tues night. Another stoopid question, tues is $6.50 and sun is 3.50? I heard usually sun is a busier day for the court rental, perhaps VB is quieter on Sun then. Last tues it was very much wide open , zero waiting time one can play till u drop.

Sunday night is more social so we have more people going. Tuesdays are more "hard core"

    Hi everyone,
My friend brought me to this event. I had a great time meeting new friends. It must be a lot of work organizing big bbq. I've been to many bbq's at various functions and know what is expected. However, I do have to express that I was disappointed that hot dogs and frozen hamburgers/chicken burgers were the theme of the event given the amount of funds charged. Paying $18 is pretty steep. I understand that there was some seafood after, but it was like a small piece to the lucky people hovering around the bbq every half hour or so. I was expecting for the very least fresh marinated chicken, steaks, or meat skewers as a Asian theme bbq. Honestly, I went for late lunch after I left. My understanding is that these meetup functions is for friendship gatherings and events but not a profit oriented group. A lot of people as to where I was sitting was saying the same thing. I do want these events to continue to be successful, hence I am giving a true feedback.

I can understand "pinky's" view. When i first saw this event I was scratching my head at the cost but I also look at it another way. If you just look at it for food cost then yes you're going to feel the way you do. I looked at it as an organized event that takes time to plan. Pple have their own lives and maybe cannot take as much time out to prep and do all the things that could make "food" costs less ie) being home made. Prepackaged items are convenient and easier to get in a short time period to hold large events. I have my own thoughts on food prep and ways that things could have been done differently but do I slam the organizers and all those that helped prep food for 100 pple? no. They did a good job and it is what it is.

      June 10, 2013

    • Damien M.

Home made will always be cheaper it just takes time to do everything. Buying a bunch of ground beef and forming your own patties would be way cheaper but time consuming.

Am i saying that you or the even organizers are wrong? no both of you are correct in your own ways. Nobody is perfect and just take it as it is. There was no malicious attempt to steal your money, as far as i know this was the 3rd? year or something this event has been held which this is my 1st time attending. It's not easy to organize all this stuff, they are still getting used to the logistics of it. If you wish for things to be better how about joining and being part of the organizing team and putting in thoughts and suggestions rather than complaints.

    Awesome event, Humphrey and Team!
This was my first BBT Annual BBQ (haven't heard about meetup last year)
    (*Toastmasters Feedback Speech tone*)
Food was in abundance with multiple grills going at once. I love how there were fish ball and skewers all afternoon long (Becky mentioned you guys were preparing it for 3 hours straight on friday!). Great effort on the games, and they had prizes too!
overall I give it 5/5 stars! Love the environment and group vibe. Met lots of ppl, met lots of people with cats in my group! I've been convinced to come out to BBT events more often. Looking forward to next year's BBQ

Are you renting multiple industrial size bbq? Need to also get multiple tents to protect people from frying under the sun. And I think you need to talk to Vancouver municipality for hosting such a huge event in the park... Just some thoughts...

      June 5, 2013

    • Humphrey

Hi Ted - don't worry, aside from Burnaby having bylaws that BBQ is not permitted in their parks*, running BBQs are ok.
