Hill Romp - Vashon, WA (Brisk, 46 mi, 4184')

Join us for a hilly 46 mile ride on nearby Vashon Island with a 4180’ elevation gain. We will meet on the Vashon Ferry dock at 9:45 a.m. and catch the 10:10 a.m. ferry to the island. This ride recommended for more experienced cyclists who have been riding hills.

ROUTE: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3664941

CUE SHEET: http://files.meetup.com/3386582/Hill_Romp_-_Vashon.pdf

COST: Bring $6.00 for passenger/bike ticket.

PACE: Will adhere to 16-18 mph on flats with equivalent effort (but not speed) on hill climbs and use cautious descents. We will regroup (within reason) at tops of hills, but will not wait for fixing flats or mechanical issues so come prepared with everything you need. Please print and bring a cue sheet with you in case you become separated from the group. Faster paced riders are welcome and encouraged to join, but for them the ride will be self-guided. The route offers many bailout options, noted on the cue sheet.

REST STOPS: Please bring food and water. Restroom/water stops at miles 26 and 35 (coffee stop in town) and on ferry both directions.

PARKING: Park in the northernmost lot Lincoln Park or on the Northbound side of Fauntleroy (be aware if time limits are posted, do not park in southbound ferry loading line).

FERRY: 10:10 a.m. sailing. Fauntleroy to Vashon. Arrive on Ferry Dock by 9:45 a.m. Park bike on right-hand side in bike waiting area). Bikes not allowed in terminal.

WEATHER: Steady rain (or extremely gusty wind conditions) cancels.

RSVP: Yes! Please let us know you are coming.

Great ride!!! Fun group, wonderful to meet new friends. Cathy and Laurie did and awesome job guiding us around. Didn't rain on us, since Laurie and Dave didn't have their fenders on. :)

Weather looks great today, but chilly. Only 30% chance of showers, and it is clear right now. See you all down at the dock!

Paula, Dave, Doug, Mary. Thrilled you guys are joining Laurie and me. This ride tomorrow is a the CHEW 12 route we will be doing at the end of March. Since you all are experienced with Cascade rides, I would appreciate your help identifying any issues with Garmin or cue sheet directions and/or areas that you think might present undo hazards to the larger group. We'll be taking the descents slow tomorrow as slippery leaves are at their prime. See you (and any others that join us) on the ferry dock in the morning!
