MEETS After Dark - S Bellevue, Moderate/Brisk

LIGHTS REQUIRED - FENDERS REQUESTED. For your safety, all riders must have a working headlight and taillight to participate in this ride. For the comfort of your fellow riders, we request that riders come with long fenders in case the roads are wet.

Come join us for the Mid-week Eastside Evening Training Series - After Dark. Ride leaders for this week are:

Brisk – Frieder Mack and James Coliz
Moderate – Alexa Volwiler and Rick Wiltfong

Ride Director this week: Alexa Volwiler

This week's route: Issy/Lakemont. Cue sheet link .

MENTORING OPPORTUNITIES - Email the Ride Director to inquire.

Midweek Eastside Evening Training Series After Dark – The MEETS rides are held Tuesday evenings at 6 pm. These training rides incorporate local hills and range between 20-25 miles and from ~1200 to 2000 feet of elevation. Paces offered include Moderate, Brisk, and Strenuous. All use a common course each week.

Riders should be able to sustain the appropriate pace for their selected group, read a cue sheet, change a flat (and have the requisite equipment), and have a positive attitude! Faster riders and better climbers are welcome to join but for them the ride becomes self-paced and self-guided. Riders can ride on their own, in small groups, or with the appropriate pace ride leader. A limited number of cue sheets will be available at ride start so please print your own just in case. The final route and cue sheets will be available the weekend prior to each ride.

Rest stops: There are no planned rest stops as these are short rides. There is NO restroom at the park and ride, so please plan accordingly

Regroup policy: This is a training series, so we ride with the best interest of the group in mind. Riders may need to fall back to a slower pace group, unless you are riding in the last group, in which case the group will regroup as needed to avoid dropping riders. We want everyone to ride hard and have fun and there are multiple pace options to support all riders so no one should feel left behind. Please make sure that you print a cue sheet in case you want to ride ahead or get separated for some reason. Please make sure to print your contact information clearly on the waiver so that we can reach you as necessary

Please RSVP and check back for updates the day of the ride. RSVP is not required, but would be MUCH appreciated.

Fun ride! I even enjoyed slogging up 164th in a really lazy attempt to catch James, Greg and Pete. Let's do it again!

I agree with Monica. Let's do that one again. There are some awesome descents on that route. I hit 37 mph at one point-and I was in third place! Fun.

Thanks everybody for a fun ride. I really liked that route. Sorry I lagged behind at times. Soon I'll be able to keep up the whole time. Thanks to Nan for stopping us before we got too far off track and finishing the ride with me. Next time maybe regroup at that turn after that last bit of climbing. I flew past the turn without thinking/looking (so did Nan apparently).

Thanks for the encouragement Rick. Alexa, I knew where to go before hand just wasn't paying attention and was going pretty fast down that hill. Once we stopped and looked at a map I knew the mistake we made. It's tough being new to the area not knowing all turns, and especially at night... And going downhill. No worries. Made it back with just a few extra calories burned.

Yeah - Will work on regrouping better next time. Another thought is that if the group gets pulled apart like we did there, it's best to stick with the sweep until we get back together.

Thank's Alexa, great ride, wish I could have finished with you guys, but I did see Nan and Derrick, while fixing my flat, then rode in.

Bummer about the flat. We were losing riders right and left!

Yeah - That really sucks! At least it was toward the end of the ride. Thanks for coming out and riding with us.

Many thanks to Frieder for the mentored ride and the great advice, to James for the great route and for the mentoring support, to the patient brisk riders for their support, to Alexa for saving us from zoo hill, and to luck for the great weather.

    Great ride for sure!

Thanks, Alexa. Great job navigating on sort of a weird night. Congrats to Keith on completing his ride leader training!

I'm thinking we should give the option of going up Zoo instead of 164th if folks are interested.

This isn't going to happen. I already got feedback privately from riders who did not like the sound of this :)

Well that was a quick vote down. I would have voted yes....

I may have to bail on this one. I broke my 3rd spoke in about a week yesterday on the CHEW ride so I think my rear wheel is in bad shape. If I do this ride it would be on my single speed which I'm not sure I wanna do. :)

    January 20, 2014

    • Alexa V.

Oh no!! I need to buy a spare wheel set myself as mine is starting to lose true.

      January 20, 2014

    • Wes S.

My problem is disc brakes make it harder to notice an out of true wheel until it gets bad enough to feel the wobble at speed. I bent my rim (flat spot) as a result. :(

Keith Hovda will be our brisk mentee this week so please come out to support his second mentoring ride.
