Meeting Topic: Scala at Gradleware, and Monads for Java Programmers

Tim O'Brien, Scala at Gradleware

How to start integrating Scala into your builds with Gradle with a quick example of Gradle's first-class support for Scala. In addition to this example, Tim invites anyone interested in Scala and Gradle to register for the Gradle Summit 2013 on June 13-14th in Santa Clara, CA - http://www.gradlesummit.com

David Orme, Monads for Java Programmers

"In this talk, I propose to review what makes a Monad a Monad and why we care from the perspective of enabling concurrency. Then I will present my implementation of the monadic operation(s) over Java's Iterable, using the trigram parser (http://codekata.pragprog.com/2007/01/kata_fourteen_t.html) as a motivating example, and lead a discussion of the resulting characteristics from a concurrency perspective, including where one could go from here, since my own implementation does not utilize concurrency."

Note: As always, you must RSVP with a real name (or email it to us separately) so we can give your name to the building security ninjas in order to enter the building. Please do so by noon so we can order the right amount of food. Thanks!
