yesterday's cookie exchange and overall meetup feelings.

hi everyone,
we had our fourth annual cookie exchange yesterday afternoon and i think it was the most vegan kids we have ever had at one gathering! That alone was very special, as well as all the beautiful and delicous treats that folks prepared. Take a look at the photos on meetup.

A few things I need to mention that will be effecting how things  are run for the new year. We had over 20 NO SHOWS yesterday, almost a third of those that RSVP'd. NO SHOWS SUCK for a variety of reasons,  not the least of which is that in this case I decided to move the gathering to the September School because I didn't think my clubhouse would fit everyone comfortably. My clubhouse is free and the September School is not. And because of the smaller group I wasn't even able to collect enough to pay for the room (not to mention all the beverages I purchased in order to make sure that the 60 RSVP"S all had enough to drink.)  I mention some of the many reasons  that NO SHOWS SUCK so you know how they effect the meetup and this host. I know there are many meetups that could care less if someone RSVP's and don't show. That is not the case with this meetup. I think unless there are emergencies that come up, if you RSVP yes and don't bother to let the host know or change your rsvp to reflect you are no longer coming, it is rude and not very respectful or kind to the group in general. and the host in particular. I hope that doesn't sound too caustic, but as this community grows there are certain things that need to be respected so it can continue to grow and be a strong community effort to support veganism.

Lastly, after sending out three requests for help with set up I had one person out of 60 offer to help. Going forward if I don't have at least two committed people to help schlep everything to the location and help with setting  up all the tables ect. the meetup gathering will be canceled one week before the meetup date. This is a community effort and I hope more folks will keep that in mind as we move into 2012.

I know there are many new folks that have recently joined and I REALLY apologize for the less then happy tone of this email.
I love being part of this group and there are many, many wonderful and compassionate souls that are part of it.And the gatherings are really very wonderful on so many fronts. I don't mean to take any of that away.  I just want to remind people about how creating community takes effort and commitment from many members, not just same  few every month.

Thank you for reading. Please email me or Travis if you have any comments or input on any of above, or if you have ideas on how you would like to see this group grow in 2012.
