DRUM CIRCLE – STRESS RELIEVER - TIMELESS CORNERSTONE OF HUMAN CULTURE
SOUL CENTER OC, 2082 Business Center Drive, Irvine, CA, USSOUL CENTER OC - WHERE ANCIENT WISDOM MEETS MODERN SPIRITUALITY
Join Soul Center for our Joyful Drum Circle on Sunday, May 17th, following service, from 1:00-2:00pm in the Soul Center Sanctuary. Doors open at 12:45pm.
This event is open to EVERYONE, whether you are musically inclined or not. Our open rhythm drum circle is about finding the sacred beat within you. Instruments will be provided, however, if you have a special drum feel free to bring it!
HISTORY OF DRUM CIRCLES
Drumming has been a cornerstone of human culture for thousands of years, a rhythmic expression connecting us to our roots. However, it’s not just the rhythmic beats and captivating sounds that make drumming so special. There are mental health and spiritual benefits of drumming circles.
Enhancement in Mindfulness and Presence
Like meditation, drumming requires focus on the present moment. By concentrating on the rhythm and being in sync with others, drumming circles can enhance mindfulness.
Stress Reduction
Engaging in drumming activities can be a powerful stress-reliever. The repetitive beats and rhythms can help divert your mind from daily stressors, allowing a momentary escape.
Boosting Brain Power
Believe it or not, drumming circles can be a mental workout! Drumming has been shown to improve cognitive functions like memory and attention.
Elevation of Mood
Feeling blue? A drumming circle might be the remedy. The act of drumming can release endorphins, the body's natural painkillers, which can elevate your mood.
Enhanced Self-expression
A drumming circle offers a platform for individuals to express themselves without the barriers of language
Encouragement of Emotional Release
Drumming can be an avenue for emotional catharsis. When words fail, the rhythmic beats can communicate pain, joy, anger, or any emotion in between.

ONLINE SPIRITUAL POETRY MEETUP
·OnlineOnlineWe meet online the third Sunday of every month from 4:00-6:00pm to read and discuss spiritual poetry and wisdom quotes, and to share thoughts, feelings and insights inspired by the readings. About 25 people attend from several groups - we'd love to hear from you what poem or quote is meaningful to you - Do you love Rumi, Rilke, Joy Harjo, Hafiz, Mary Oliver, Alice Walker, Ryokan, Thomas Merton, Mirabai, Pablo Neruda, Hildegard of Bingen, Wendell Berry, Nâzım Hikmet, Thich Nhat Hanh or...? Every meetup is different, depending on what you choose to read and discuss. Let's learn from each other as we share these invitations to what is higher and deeper.
We draw strength, support, and inspiration from poetry and wisdom traditions. All paths and views are welcome -- this is an open and welcoming space where we get to know others who share a love for spiritual poetry and wisdom quotes, and for that which connects us with a deeper life, regardless of spiritual path or personal history. We very much appreciate the poets among us, but we do not read our own work.
NOTE: RSVPs close three hours before the meetup begins, so please make sure to RSVP in advance! You must be logged in on Zoom to join the meeting, and a password is required. The password will be sent by Meetup message or email as we get closer to the date. Please make sure your email settings for this group have email updates turned on so you can receive the email. For information on how to adjust your email settings click here. If you haven't received the login details by early the day of the meetup, please let me know.
Take-Home Poetry Packs are available for free download at https://intrinsicheart.com under the "Poetry & More" tab. (These are a gift for enjoyment, not a prescription for readings!) Women's Group to Share & Support Each Other With Dharma & Karma
·OnlineOnlineHope this message finds you well our friends.
We have had women request a women’s Dharma Workshop, so we’ve decided to try it. We will meet once a month on a Saturday from 12 to 1 pm PST. The format will be brief self-introductions, a dharma slideshow presentation by Lori, followed by questions on the dharma. Lori will moderate. If you’d like to join us, please send an email to BOTH [bitadharma22@gmail.com](http://mailto:bitae22@hotmail.com/) and Lori at [itsadeal58@gmail.com](http://mailto:itsadeal58@gmail.com/). One email, two recipients is what we’re looking for. In your email, please tell us the following: (1) the names of the Dharma Lab meetups you usually attend, (2) about how many Buddhism meetups you have attended, and (3) where you consider yourself to be along your Buddhist path (e.g. I meditate 3 times a week; I have read extensively about Tibetan Buddhism; I chant twice a day every day; I tried Zen Buddhism, I clean my space every day, I join one of Bita and Yuichi’s meetups each week, etc.); (4) if you’re a contributing member, please let us know. Be sure to sign it with your whole name, especially if you have an email like “itsadeal58”! I don’t want to address you as Ms It Sadeal, that would be rude. Please join us, I think we can make it a good experience for everyone. I’m looking forward to it!
Usually we have about 10-20 women who join us. You won't see all the RSVPs on this page so don't be discouraged by the few RSVPs here! See you soon. This event is about women's empowerment and moving on from a place of hurt to a place of leadership all thanks to the healing power of the Dharma.
I’m Lori. I have been studying Buddhism with Bita and Yuichi for a few years now. I am a retired research chemist and I study French in my spare time (j’adore France). If you’re interested in learning more about mindfulness, or want to learn to meditate, I’m available to help you. I can be reached at [itsadeal58@gmail.com](http://mailto:itsadeal58@gmail.com/), and Bita can be reached at [bitadharma22@gmail.com](http://mailto:bitae22@hotmail.com/) for 1:1 Dharma lessons by offering a contribution.
We have a YouTube channel. Please consider to subscribe and join us:
