Define Your /Purpose. To-do lists are what you need to get to-done, but what is the "why" behind what you do? What impact do you want to have in the world? How will you measure success? Join Nate Heasley, founder of Goodnik, and build your own /purpose (http://slashpurpose.org/) page.

What's a /purpose page? It's a space you create, perhaps on your web site (e.g. yoursite.com/purpose) to which you can direct people who are interested in learning more about why you do what you do. The creative agency Fictive Kin leads the charge; building and hosting a battle cry for a web site here at slashpurpose.org (http://fictivekin.com/).

Now more than ever, people want to know about the motives behind the businesses they deal with. By sharing your beliefs and values in an authentic way, you can attract like-minded people you'll not only want to do business with, but also forge deeper relationships with.

It's a simple but powerful action you can take to stand out. While lots of people compete on price and features in offering endless arrays of products and services, making a clear and resonant statement of your purpose gives you an edge that no one can take from you, because your passions are unique to you. By putting yourself out there, you invite others to connect in a way no soulless list of product features ever can. At the end of the day, business is still human beings choosing to work with other human beings.

How it works

We'll start with a round of introductions and brief discussion about the /purpose concept, looking at some successful examples, then discuss any questions or issues anyone might have. Then we'll kick right into a focused work session, where each of us will commit to working on a /purpose page, or something equivalent. We'll set a timer and jam, taking periodic breaks to zoom out and review.

By the end of the sprint, everyone should be able to walk away with a published page that they can use forever.

About this event

What is a New Work Sprint? It’s a special work session where a group of people gather together to focus on one particular thing for a concentrated period of time. It’s a way to ensure you address things that you otherwise may put off.

It’s part of an effort to support the gathering of independents to make each other’s lives easier.

What is New Work City? New Work City is a coworking space. There are a lot of coworking spaces now, but we're a little special, because we were built by and for a community of independent people who seek to build better ways to support each other and, ultimately, feel less alone. Since 2008, we've been open to all with easy and affordable memberships. Learn more at http://nwc.co !

This event is free to members of New Work City and $10 for everyone else. If you're a member, contact us to be added to the RSVP list!
