New Meetup: North Fork Mountain- 2010 Grand Vista Series Part II

Announcing a new Meetup for The Washington Backpackers Meetup Group!

What: North Fork Mountain- 2010 Grand Vista Series Part II

When: Friday, March 5,[masked]:00 PM

Where:
Centreville Park & Ride Lot
14700 Lee Highway
Centreville, VA 20120

Enough snow has melted it's time to get back up the mountain and enjoy some of the finest Vistas in the East! Doubt me do you? Check out the picture above to see the ridge you will be walking on! This picture is from our trip on January 22-24, 2010, so what you see is what you get!!! We will be finishing our Northern Section Trip from last time, so let's dust off those backpacks, pack our gear and saddle up for a one of a kind trip, again! This is the real deal (top rate winter backpacking) and you must contact me before we leave, so I can be sure you can do the trip and are properly prepared. I took Vessie on the last trip, who had not done backpacking before and she had a great time...ask her! However, I did make sure she was physically fit and prepared to handle the conditions and you must be as well. You are going into a land of incredible beauty and if unprepared, incredible danger. Winter is probably the best time to backpack, so hop aboard and let's do the Wicked Good North Fork Mountain Trail!!! Itinerary is to drive up on Friday night leaving Centreville at 7 PM (or earlier if we can) and arriving at the trail head (Redman Run Trail) by 11:30 PM, where we will camp for the night by the car. In the morning we will walk 7 miles across the mountain enjoying the finest views around on an incredible sunny day, then camping on the edge of the mountain for the night with a great campfire. On Sunday, we will have a 2 mile walk down the mountain and stop at the top of Seneca Rocks for an experience that must be seen and felt to be described! The Native Indians considered it one of the most spiritual place in the East and was shared by all tribes...the only one in this region....so now I am sharing it with you! We will be cooking together if you wish, to cut down on everyone's load...plus no one has complained about my cooking yet...or died for that matter! wink

I am making this trip later on Friday to accommodate people, but please be sure you are prepared and get with me ASAP if I do not know you from any hikes or trips as I have your safety and the good will of the group I must look after. Just like I said for the last trip, "this is one of those trips you must do before you die", so 'nuf said!
