Day 2 of 3 – Getting Started with Drupal: Content and Site Architecture

Objectives: At the end of this free 3-hour training session, you will be able to

  • Discuss strategies for organizing your content
  • Distinguish between Drupal’s default URLs and URL aliases
  • Discuss different types of URL aliases and how they can be used in your site
  • Configure Pathauto to support your URL alias strategy
  • Describe the role the theme plays in defining your page layouts
  • Distinguish between default blocks, manual blocks, module generated blocks
  • Configure blocks to show under one or more of the following conditions: path, content type, and role

Prerequisites: You need to have completed the activities from day 1 of this free training series. If you have a friend who can work with you to practice the topics from day 1, please feel free to come. Time is limited so we will not be reviewing day 1 activities.

Materials: This is a free training event. There will be no handouts. Please bring paper and pen to take notes.

Important note: This is not your typical Drupal meetup. This is a facilitated training event. We will start on time to allow those who need to be home at a decent hour. When class ends, there will be a short meet and greet for those who have time to stay.

So happy to *finally* understand how blocks and nodes and themes relate.

Ugh I can't make it tonight! Let me know if there is anything else I need to do for next week as I will practice from home this week.

Thursday is fast approaching. If you did not attend last Thursday and cannot practice the tasks listed in the objectives for last Thursday, please change your status so someone who can get caught up, can attend. The refcard has the basic information you need. Just match the topic on the objectives to the card. We will be covering other items on the card ... and then some this week.
    thanks, Cindy

How can I get all the content covered on day 1? Thanks.

I should have mentioned I'm in the class too so probably not the most knowledgeable resource ;-). If you can launch the Dev Desktop and it shows a green status on both the Apache Web Server and MySQL db, and you can view your new site using the "Go to my site" button then I would assume you installed properly.

Anita, Have you downloaded and read the refcard at http://refcardz.dzone.... If you practice (not just read) up to the where the card talks about themes, you should have enough to survive '-) day 2. Cindy

It was nice to meet everyone at least week's Meetup. I am still working on that class project. I'm trying to practice adding in fields in the content types, but I am not sure I am doing the image field correctly. I keep getting an error, which is a sure sign I am doing something wrong. If anyone can help please message me.

Hi everyone. I want to thank everyone who came on day 1. Unfortunately, we had some no shows or some that took their name off the list at the last minute. Day 2 assumes you attended day 1 or you have experience performing the tasks listed in day 1 objectives. If you did not attend as planned and are scheduled for day 2, please take some time to get some coaching on the tasks covered on day 1 so that you can keep up on day 2. thanks

Quick reminder for those who are RSVPep: this is a *beginner* class. If you are not a beginner (and I know some of you aren't), please change your RSVP to No so that someone from the waiting list can attend. Thanks!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
