April Monthly Meetup: Slash Your Form Spam with CleanTalk

Online form spam is an unfortunate reality of online communication, as prevalent as that for email. Conventional tactics such as honeypots offer some level of protection, but adequate defense is an escalating arms race. Spam bots increase and sophistication, where even some seemingly novel solutions often offer only a limited respite—and then will be circumvented to bring the spam inundation back to prior levels. At the same time, common methods such as CAPTCHA can be annoying for users, as well as presenting potential accessibility challenges.

There is an alternative—CleanTalk. This is a third-party spam blocking service that offers easy Drupal form integration as well as being invisible to the user, and offers the benefit of speeding up form display in some use cases.

In this session, we will cover:
- Challenges of form spam
- Other methods for counteracting spam—and their pitfalls
- CleanTalk overview
- Installation and setup of CleanTalk
- Extended experience of use

Due to the pandemic restriction, this event will be online only.
