This February and March we will kick-off 2 Android Fundamentals Study Groups in the Google Developers Study Jams (http://www.googledevelopersstudyjams.com/) initiative.
If you are serious about Android and have passed the various introductory material this study group is for you!
You will work through Udacity's Android Fundamentals (https://www.udacity.com/course/viewer#!/c-ud853) curriculum at your own pace and will meet your peers weekly to discuss progress, work with each other through the curriculum and work on your final project.

We expect you to spend around 6 hours per week to work through the Udacity course material before the on-site meetup. During the weekly study group evenings you will receive support about that weeks lesson by a DutchAUG facilitator on-site who has already done the course and/or has already passed certification.
The locations: The study groups will meet in two locations. Frank Bouwens will lead the study group at the Hogeschool Rotterdam and Hugo Visser and Johan Pelgrim will lead an on-line study group via Hangouts on Air (https://www.google.com/+/learnmore/hangouts/onair.html) and support the Rotterdam study group where needed.
The Schedule:
The on-line study group will kick off on Tuesday February 3rd and will meet weekly from 6:30pm to 7:30pm
The Rotterdam Study Group will kick off on Wednesday February 4th and will meet weekly from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Following Udacity's course outline (https://www.udacity.com/course/ud853) we will discuss the following lessons in the following time frames.
Feb 1-7: Lesson 1
Feb 8-14: Lesson 2
Feb 15-21: Lesson 3
Feb 22-28: Vacation / Catch-Up (no meetup)
March 1-7: Lesson 4a
March 8-14: Lesson 4b
March 15-21: Lesson 5
March 22-28: Lesson 6
We will finish off the study group program with a final project sprint session on Saturday March 28th.
Prerequisites: This is an advanced course intended for students with at least 3 years of programming experience in Java (Udacity's Intro to Java (http://www.udacity.com/course/cs046) is a helpful background if you're looking to refresh your Java skills) or another object-oriented programming language (for example: C++, Objective C or Python) and preferably 1 year of programming experience in Android. Here (https://www.udacity.com/course/ud853) is some more info of what you'll learn in the Developing Android Apps course.
Entry fee: €25,- (€12,50 if you are a student or take part in the on-line study group) To host 7 study group evenings and a final project sprint session with drinks, snacks, etc. costs money. We are a foundation, so we don't have to make a profit, but we do want to break even. Secondly, to meet each other weekly for two months is a serious commitment. By charging money we want to make sure people who are attending are serious about learning how to create better quality Android apps.
Note: Attending this course does not directly result in official Udacity certification! If you want to pass the official Android Fundamentals certification you normally must buy a subscription. However, free certification for some attendees is possible, pending your course performance. So do well on the course, attend every session, help others, build a great final project and maybe you will be eligible to get certified for free!
If you want to go ahead and start with setting up your development environment and get access to the lessons please sign up here (https://www.udacity.com/account/affiliate/StudyJam).
