Python Web Meetup and general meeting Dutch Django Association

NOTE: the meetup location has been changed because of an unfortunate double booking. The new location is the office of TravelBird:

The general meeting of the Dutch Django Association will begin at 18:30 SHARP. To attend this general meeting you need to be a member of the Dutch Django Assocation. If you want you can become a member just before the general meeting starts.

<= See: "Memberships dues", on the left

Talks start at 19:30. We are seated on the first floor of our sponsor TravelBird in Amsterdam, thanks for hosting us. The format is 2x30 min. presentation slots and 5x5 min. lightning talks. If you are interested in giving a presentation email [masked]. Presentations end around 22:30, we'll share another beer and discuss the presentations. At approximately 23:30 the meetup ends.

FYI, should work now. All the ports, processes and IPs that could possibly be wrong where in fact wrong.

Tech stuff always breaks in demos. For a moment I thought, let's just pip install, but the chances that would have worked are slim ;)

P.S. I'm actively looking for freelance or part-time jobs.

Hi, I can give a Django related lightning talk. Which topic do you prefer?
    - 10 things to take care of when Open Sourcing your package.
    - django-start-project: a effective template to start your projects.
    - PyCharm highlights
    - highlights of django-fluent-* CMS modules.

Me too, but I can't attend anymore though. Would be very interested in any slides / notes / minutes if you end up giving a talk about opensourcing..

@Th: I'll write a blog post in a few days. My slides only mentioned topics, and there was a lot more to add which didn't fit in 5 minutes. Glad to know it's well received :)

Hi Remco! Is it still true that becoming a member costs only 10 euro's? Is it an idea that students/unemployed get a discount?

    February 27, 2013

    • Joeri B.

Becomming a member of the Django Association is only 10 euro/year and it's not required to attend the meetings. Why give a discount?

Turns out I won't be able to attend :(

I was going to talk about the NASA Space Apps Challenge, which will also happen in Amsterdam (

It's not specifically Python- or Django-related, but of course most projects (if not all) are language-agnostic so... :)

Registration is free, but attendance is limited, so I'd urge those interested to register. Let me know if you have questions!

I'll be presenting (30 min) about Job-Runner, a crontab like tool which I developed for Spil Games, with a nice web-frontend for administration and (live) monitoring the current status.

First I'll cover what we are doing within our time and how Job-Runner is making our life more easy. Then I'll tell more about Job-Runner and how it works.

If you're interested, you can already check it out at (it's open-source): and / or read more about it at

Orne, Looking forward to hear your talk. Also because I noticed that a 'comparable' product, Chronos http://airbnb.github.... has been open sourced since 2 weeks.

I will present the small but very useful Webapp2 microframework. It is the default python framework for Google App Engine, however it can also be used stand-alone. I will show both scenario's and add some general information about (developing for) App Engine.

    March 18, 2013

    • Reinout van R.

So you already have the two main talks: what are they about?

      March 19, 2013

    • Remco W.

Yes. Both presenters will announce their own presentations

What are the talks about? I normally cannot attend on Thursday, but I'd like to have advance warning in case there's something can't-miss in there.

Hi Remco, I've sent you an e-mail a while ago, to propose a 30 min talk about Job-Runner (a tool I built for Spil Games, which is now open-source). Could you let me know if there is still space in the planning for this?
