On National Cohousing Open House Day, area cohousing neighborhoods, cooperative communities and ecovillages will be opening their doors at select times throughout the day. Come see what people are doing in sustainable communities around the East Bay, and do walking, bicycling, and bus tours.

Come see a variety of area communities and learn how you can join them or create your own.

Tours will start at Berkeley Cohousing (open from 8-11 AM) and hit several other area communities throughout the day.

Communities open for part of the day include a wide variety:

• Berkeley Cohousing: 100% affordable (moderate-income) homeowner.

• Swan's Market Cohousing: Mixed-use urban development, downtown.

• Temescal Creek Cohousing: Neighborhood Retrofit. Rare resale in progress.

• Doyle Street Cohousing (Emeryville): First in the Area, with a rare 2BR home for sale.

• Golden Gate Cohousing: Only 100% rental nonprofit-owned community; expanding.

• Kingfisher on Brookdale Cohousing: Lots of room in this innovative model.

RSVP here to express interest, and look at http://www.CohousingTours.com/ for tour options.

While the open houses are all free, you can reserve a prepaid breakfast or lunch or seats on the organized tours, or just meet other carpoolers and improvise as you go.

Note: Pleasant Hill Cohousing will instead be doing its regular "first Sunday" tour the following day, May 1.
