Hi Laura,


I feel a deep urge to initiate Zero Waste PB in 2009.  There’s a growing community of individuals committed to sustainable practices in Pacific Beach, and I want us to take a giant leap to zero waste.  We have available our offices at Drew George & Partners (The Green Building Consulting Company) for a meeting place. 


Also, I would like to donate $5 towards your cost.  However, I get the same information from you in the other forums you post.  A possible idea is to invite everyone in this group to join the other free groups, such as Zero Waste San Diego or SD Green Business if they want to get involved.  Just an idea...


Mmmmm, I love potlucks and local farming!!

Hi all,


So I sent the following message a few weeks ago and got a several good responses (see below) and it seems as if there is a need for this specific meetup in regards to spreading the news about green event in San Diego County. There were also several comments in regards to donations (thank you!) and organizing in sub groups.


What do you all think? I would like to hear from more of you.


How would like to meet? I have a place in mind where we can meet each other, eat and chat about the future of this meetup. We all joined this for some reason, lets get together and really talk about it.


Please respond and let me know what you think and what day and time would work for you.

I took over this meetup a year ago because the previous organizer was to busy. I took it over not knowing it cost $72.00 every 6 months to host the meetup. I took it over because I felt it was important to have a group like this for San Diego County and I wanted to share other environmental events that are being hosted throughout the County, but I need your help.


I need your help to decide what direction we would like this meetup to go. How this meetup should be organized? What are the expectations of this meetup? How can we fund this meetup so that I don't have to pay $144.00 a year to keep it going? I am also looking for some assistance on keeping this meetup moving forward rather than at a stand still.


So I am writing everyone today to find out what you think should be the goals for 2009 for this specific meetup?




  • Organize events to meet everyone
  • Start an environmental campaign
  • Organize events for San Diego as a fundraiser to pay for this group and other events
  • Take a leadership role for the environmental community
  • This are ideas that I are on the top of my head.
  • If you can please respond the listserv and not directly to me that would be great. I would like to start a discussion and I want everyone to participate.

Why did you join this meetup in the first place? How can you help to keep it going?

Thoughts for the future:


There are lots of green events around town - clearly more than you or I can organize and attend. My vote is to get a few more organizers involved. One person to lead the environmental campaign group. One to lead the eco-volunteering group. One to lead x, y, z.etc etcetc. We have a ton of people and it would be nice to narrow in on what they want to do or break into subgroups or something.








I think it's important too.  Here are some things I would like to see for the group in 2009:


Provide opportunities to meet other San Diegans who care about the environment

Provide opportunities to help out with environmental causes – volunteer events, fundraisers, local issues to take action on, charity balls, etc Serve as an overall calendar for events that suit our membership

I agree with Elizabeth...have the meetup calendar serve as an overall calendar and I think having the option to volunteer at events. Also local issues..supporting local farming in San Diego county, organic food etc...





In regards to the funding, I know of one meetup group that does sponsored months, where each month one or two members pay for the months dues and get the month "named" after them. Another alternative is for each meetup attended, each member pays a dollar, but this might be too much or not enough depending on attendance.

I think these are great suggestions. I think posting notifications of green recycling events around the city and seminars on green living would be great.  Also I would like to add having potlucks, lunches etc. to get to know each other and have some fun.

I would be happy to chip in for the fee.  If almost every member sent in $1 (via Paypal on the Meetup site) it would cover the expenses.
