Douglas Crockford

  • Sep 12, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Douglas Crockford, author of JavaScript: The Good Parts, is in town for JavaZone and has kindly agreed to do a preview of a brand new talk for Framsia. Hence this is something you definitely don't want to miss out on.

Douglas Crockford was born in the Frostbite Falls, Minnesota, but left when he was only six months old because it was just too damn cold. He turned his back on a promising career in television when he discovered computers. He has worked in learning systems, small business systems, office automation, games, interactive music, multimedia, location-based entertainment, social systems, and programming languages. He is the inventor of Tilton, the ugliest programming language that was not specifically designed to be an ugly programming language. He is best known for having discovered that there are good parts in JavaScript. This was an important and unexpected discovery. He also discovered the JSON Data Interchange Format, the world's most loved data format. And he works at PayPal.

Short and somewhat off-the-expected-topic, but pleasant and suitable for forming an idea of what the man behind the words and declarations really is like. For the future; can we please have some sort of lady-and-gentleman-like agreement that if we're unable to show up to a crowded meetup less than five to ten minutes late, maybe we should not show up at all? Also, if we are taking care of a young child, maybe bringing it to a boring-for-children lecture with a soft-spoken lecturer isn't such an excellent idea?

    Thanks for the meetup, though!

Sorry about the wording. That was not called for, my bad :) I agree it goes both ways and being respectful is important for all parties.

Well said. Thank you for the clarification :-)

I felt this talk was boring when I left the room, but today I think that although it was kind of targeted towards managers it worked well as a mirror for us as developers.
seeing how you need to portray us to the ones in charge of managing us makes you more aware of how we behave. one point he made was about how every heated discussion usually is just based on bullshit or some people opinions, never facts. I look forward to seeing the finished talk!

I've reserved a space for us at http://www.oslomekaniskeverksted.no/ from 20. So please join us for a beer or two after the talk.

What does the wife say? :P
This must be the craziest attendee and waiting-list I've seen on this meetup. Can you who has a boring wifes who says "no-no-no-no-no-no-no" change your RSVP to free up some spots for my late-on-the-trigger-finger colleagues?

      Thank you, Tobias!

I just confirmed the venue can take 200++, so increased the limit to 250, there will always be some no-shows. I agree with Jørn Are that it would be good if people can keep their RSVP status up-to-date still. See you all tomorrow!
