New York Gaming June Meetup

We're getting back to our regularly scheduled program with the June New York Gaming Meetup, which is happening on June 30th at AOL Ventures.  We'll have demos from some of the newest games built in the NYC area -- and as always, great people and great drinks.

This month, the NY Gaming Meetup is featuring demos of awesome games built in the NYC area, including:

Tom Rassweiler and Vincent St.John are demoing Arkadium's newest Facebook game;

Jim Babb will show off Socks Incorporated;

Aaron Henshaw presents Cloud Assassin;

Francesco Marconi is demoing Herograph;

Dave Moricca will show off BreakoutBand;

Sean Steinmarc is demoing psGive, and

Matt Cohen presents Office Riot!

    Overall a great show, though disappointingly some of the "games" being presented were not actually games; they were utilities/applications which had gamification elements applied to them. The games which WERE presented were very interesting, though.

    Overall, it was a great event. Lots of people, good companies presenting, etc

    Some suggestions:
    More beer, some food/snacks (people come right from work), schedule of events, presenters should know the audience better--require them to come to at least 1-2 events before presenting, would love to see some gamification examples here

    I agree with Neil. Both the networking and the demos are valuable, but it would be good to post a schedule so everyone knows what to expect. And if AOL Ventures says we have to be out at 9, maybe we can start earlier to allow time for everything.

    As usual the demos showed lots of passion and variety in form and function. The AOL space remains beautiful. Hope to see everyone again next month, along with some more awesome demos!

    Great meet up could have used more time at the end to talk socialize with other developers though.

    The demo's were great! I wish we had more time at the end to hang out and talk with all of the other developers there. I was a bit surprised to see so much of a brand/business focus on some of the games. It seems like building a really good game first will naturally attract attention and lead to brand sponsorship.

    The meetup itself was great, except that they kicked us out in the middle of everyone's networking. If we had had, say, 3 or 4 demos and had the rest of the time to network, I think a lot of people would have been happier. I spoke with several who really only came for the networking (same here). Also, were there any non-alcoholic beverages anywhere? maybe I missed them, but I could have used a coke ;)

    This was my first NY Gaming Meetup, and definitely won't be the last. It's the right kind of energetic, creative, interactive environment for anyone interested in game development and the industry. Awesome people, cool demos and uplifting spirit. Makes you leave with the itch to pull out that old game doc or conquer that stubborn bug in your game ;)
