Object Tracking with Drones and Python for Science
Details
The goal: Use Drones to Track Objects for Science
The tools: Python (https://www.python.org/), OpenCV (http://opencv.org/), Blender (https://www.blender.org/), and ZeroMQ (http://zeromq.org/)
Ben Sanda (https://www.meetup.com/grpython/members/98062652/) will present how the OpenCV image processing and machine vision library can be integrated with Blender's Python backend to produce a dynamic object tracking and simulation framework. The basics of OpenCV in Python will be discussed along with real-time demos and examples. Once a basic understanding of OpenCV is established the entire integration framework will be presented and demonstrated. The use of the ZeroMQ messaging library will also be touched on as a fast and efficient means to communicate between OpenCV and Blender in lieu of traditional message queues or pipes.
Thanks to PyImageSearch (http://www.pyimagesearch.com/), we'll be giving away a dead tree copy of the excellent "Practical Python and OpenCV: An Introductory, Example Driven Guide to Image Processing and Computer Vision (https://www.pyimagesearch.com/practical-python-opencv/)" by Dr. Adrian Rosebrock at this meeting.
After the meeting, please join us at HopCat for drinks, food, and socializing.
