Git Version Control

This meetup is devoted to Version Control. Version control is something no developer should be without, and Git is one of the most popular tools, not to mention fast and easy to learn and use.

Carlus Henry - Git 101 / Git SVN

Ryan Montgomery - Git Flow

Dave Brondsema - Advanced Git Config

It was a lot of fun presenting to such a great audience at a fantastic location. Looking forward to visiting the grWebDev again soon.

It definitely seems like the "HOT" VCS...

Also, if anybody would like to kick the tires on a GitLabHQ install, drop me a PM and I will add a user to the sandbox that I threw together, http://gitonit.hostedbycanvas.c... .

Hey folks. Sadly, stuff came up and I'll be unable to talk about self-hosted GitHub alternatives. I'll try to get the slides into a presentable state for posting here.

Mainly, I covered doing things manually via gitolite [ https://github.com/sitaramc/gito... ] and doing things way less manually via GitLabHQ [ http://gitlabhq.com ] (because it's awesome), but also shouted out both Enterprise GitHub and self-hosted Gitorious.

I have been using Git-Svn for the past couple of years now. It was my "gateway" drug to using Git for everything. I would be more than happy to talk about my experiences with it.

I could be persuaded to talk about either self-hosted github alternatives (which I'm looking into) or git-flow (which we use and love at EU), whichever is more appealing.

I added a poll in order to find out what people are using for version control. I am just assuming most people are either on git, or want to move to git. If someone has something related to source control, but not git related, please feel free to volunteer.

@Brandon How about you talk about both?

I'd be happy to talk, either about GitHub or straight up git.

I'd be interested in hearing about open source self-hosted GitHub-like services.

What a great idea. I wonder if anyone would be willing to defend SVN. I have recently started using git locally and committing with git-svn. By the time this meetup happens I will probably be prepared to discuss git-svn. We could cover general version control best practices (branches, etc).

I wonder if anyone from GitHub would be willing to discuss advanced use of GitHub?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
