What we're about

Welcome to GRWebDev powered by LaFleur!

We are a group of web developers in the Grand Rapids, MI area. We discuss all aspects of developing for the web, from HTML, CSS, and Javascript to design, user experience, usability, accessibility, and tools.

Whether you write code, write content, design, or manage, when you work on the web there is a lot of common ground. Join us to learn from each other about best web practices, cross-browser compatibility, Javascript frameworks, style hacks, project management, and other web-related topics.

Our meetup is for the community, by the community. If there is a topic you would like to present, we'd love to hear from you! Submit a presentation idea here: https://forms.gle/EiQQ54jKh3iLAT4EA

GRWebDev powered by LaFleur presents Ashley Helminiak: Accessibility Testing

GRWebDev powered by LaFleur presents Ashley Helminiak Accessibility Testing: Interpreting Results DESCRIPTION Most of us already know the importance of web accessibility in today’s landscape. However, the number of people that know how to audit and remediate sites for accessibility is much lower. Join me as we cover the basics of automated and manual testing tools and learn how to evaluate commonly identified issues. We’ll also look at how to interpret what automated tests tell us, and discern when we have to put down the automated tools and use our own human judgement to uncover the real issue. BIO Ashley is a CPACC certified Accessibility Lead for Rapid Development Group with a focus on accessible UX and front-end development. She has a diverse background in graphic design, digital accessibility and strategic planning. She has experience working with Drupal, React, and WordPress frameworks. Ashley is always trying to see the bigger picture and look at problems from every possible angle to come up with the best people-oriented solutions. SPONSORS This month's meetup is graciously sponsored by Rapid Development Group. Friday Morning Code + Commiserate

Online event

As a developer, it's very easy to fall into the same routine: get up, go to work, deal with the project(s) on-hand, go home. But how are we keeping our skills sharp... and up to date? Once you're submerged in the grind, it can sometimes be difficult to rise to the surface and spend time improving your toolset. We feel your pain: we're in the same boat! Join us each week as we sit down and take time to dive into the latest dev news, share tips and tricks, and commiserate in general. This is an informal study group where we are all peers, learning from and sharing with the others. In a perfect world, we would be hanging out at The Lantern, but for the moment we're connecting virtually via Zoom. The rules? Be professional, be humble, be kind. Turn on your mic and camera, grab a coffee, and let's talk code!
