What we're about

As a developer, it's very easy to fall into the same routine: get up, go to work, deal with the project(s) on-hand, go home. But how are we keeping our skills sharp... and up to date? Once you're submerged in the grind, it can sometimes be difficult to rise to the surface and spend time improving your toolset. We feel your pain: we're in the same boat! Join us each week as we sit down and take time to dive into the latest dev news, share tips and tricks, and commiserate in general. This is an informal study group where we are all peers, learning from and sharing with the others. In a perfect world, we would be hanging out at The Lantern, but for the moment we're connecting virtually via Zoom. The rules? Be professional, be humble, be kind. Turn on your mic and camera, grab a coffee, and let's talk code!
GRWebDev powered by LaFleur presents Jake Bartlett: A Career in Tech Without Writing Code DESCRIPTION A career in tech doesn't require writing code. There are many well-paying and rewarding non-technical roles at technology companies today. In this presentation, Jake will discuss the non-technical roles he's held, share tips on finding and landing non-technical roles, and discuss best practices for how non-technical roles and developers/engineers can work well together. BIO Jake Bartlett loves creating amazing customer experiences. He's been working with technology companies since 2007 as a Project Manager, Support Engineer, Support Lead, and Technical Writer. Most recently, he's worked with Atlassian and Statuspage in the Bay Area and remotely from Grand Rapids. Before working in tech, he dabbled in the music industry in Nashville. Outside of work, you can find Jake outside hiking, canoeing, biking, or playing music. Learn more about Jake at jakebartlett.net. SPONSORS This month's meetup is graciously sponsored by Otterbase. With its national headquarters located right here in Grand Rapids, Otterbase is a staffing agency that puts people first, not algorithms.
