What we're about

Welcome to GRWebDev powered by LaFleur!

We are a group of web developers in the Grand Rapids, MI area. We discuss all aspects of developing for the web, from HTML, CSS, and Javascript to design, user experience, usability, accessibility, and tools.

Whether you write code, write content, design, or manage, when you work on the web there is a lot of common ground. Join us to learn from each other about best web practices, cross-browser compatibility, Javascript frameworks, style hacks, project management, and other web-related topics.

Our meetup is for the community, by the community. If there is a topic you would like to present, we'd love to hear from you! Submit a presentation idea here: https://forms.gle/EiQQ54jKh3iLAT4EA

GRWebDev Presents Sloth I: Bootstrapping with Google Firebase

GRWebDev powered by LaFleur presents Sloth I: Bootstrapping with Google Firebase DESCRIPTION Custom development can be pricey, especially if you’re a small business, non-profit, or aspiring entrepreneur. Likely, these types of clients do not have $150K burning a hole in their pockets to build a minimum viable product. So is there no hope? Or might there be a way to bootstrap their product to get it out on the market? Google Firebase, a part of Google Cloud Services, offers swift implementation of a number of standard development features: user authorization, database collections, cloud functions, and even user interaction analytics. Even better: getting started with Google Firebase costs nothing, and you can build back-end code in your favorite language (Python, Java, C#, Node.js, and more). In this virtual presentation, Sloth will give an overview of Google Firebase and give real-world examples of its use in both professional and personal projects. We hope you’ll join us on Monday, July 27th at 6:15pm as we explore the world of Google Cloud Services… BYOB! RSVP This month we are asking participants to RSVP on Eventbrite. Once you have done so, you will gain access to the Zoom link for this presentation. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bootstrapping-with-google-firebase-tickets-112654045282 BIO Sloth I is a front end developer and the face behind SlothWerks. SlothWerks provides custom web and mobile application development for startups, small businesses, non-profits in West Michigan. Sloth is also a workshop instructor for Grand Circus, Michigan’s largest tech-focused learning institution, and a member of the Grand Circus Alumni Ambassadors. SPONSORS This month's meetup is graciously sponsored by Grand Circus. Grand Circus offers immersive 12- or 26-week coding bootcamps in three language tracks: Front-End, C# .NET or Java. Since 2015, Grand Circus has graduated 1,600 bootcamp students and its graduates have great jobs at over 300 companies statewide. Learn more at grandcircus.co. GRWebDev Presents Ryan Weaver: A Crash Course into Modern JavaScript

GRWebDev powered by LaFleur presents Ryan Weaver: A Crash Course into Modern JavaScript UPDATE This will be a virtual meetup; RSVP for Zoom link. DESCRIPTION JavaScript used to be so cute! It was all "var foo = true" this and "document.getElementById(‘header’).fadeIn()" that. But needless to say: things have changed. Now we work with frameworks like Vue.js & React, new syntaxes are appearing, such as the () => function and "class" keyword, and something called Webpack is "compiling" our code. We've come a long way since 1995! During this presentation, we'll walk through all of this: tracing through the most important new features of JavaScript (now called ECMAScript!), where they came from, and why you should care. We'll also dive into the mysteries of Webpack, browser support and more. Whether you're coding in React, Vue.js or plain ol' vanilla JavaScript, these tools will unlock your path to modern JavaScript development. BIO Ryan is a member of the Symfony core team, where he holds the vital yet unenviable role of documentation lead. He also writes content for SymfonyCasts at symfonycasts.com. When it comes to code, he's all about developer experience: how can we get great tools into the hands of more people... and hopefully make it really fun along the way. SPONSORS This month's meetup is graciously sponsored by SymfonyCasts. SymfonyCasts features more than ninety video tutorial courses covering a wide range of topics such as REST APIs, PHP and Drupal, Object-Oriented Programming, JavaScript, and (of course) Symfony. Learn the skills you need to build your passion project or expend your existing toolset at symfonycasts.com. GRWebDev's title sponsor is LaFleur Marketing.
